Hope they improve trains in V1.0
Have previously completed the game up to the last non-reward from space and decided to start a new build last month. Trying to setup my first train line and it's horrible, everything I try is "Next Stop is Unreachable". Had an extensive train network in my last build so I thought I knew how to get it working. Have a very simple track to begin with...
1) 2 Stations, arrows don't face each other
2) Dedicated one way tracks in each direction, no branch lines anywhere.
3) Both stations are powered
4) Tried with no (zero) signals - tilt
5) Tried with Block signals - tilt
Have they changed something or have I forgotten something?

I used four stations and 2 locos one on each end

i feel rails are semi bust atm
Both single player and on a server i play (not mine), rail segments keep ending up without power randomly forcing trains to stop until you rebuild that 1 segment even if it's a freshly placed one.
got several saves from back in 2022 loaded up a few days ago and they all have the rail issue somehow.

I dont find an issue with the trains personally. I am guessing you have a signalling problem somewhere preventing the trains to get to the destination?

What you could do is to manually drive a train to your destination and check if there is a rail issue. If it can, its probably a signalling issue

I never got to like rail bailding in the current state of the game. It doesn't seem to fit in my way of building. I played a lot of transport tycoon before I discovered satisfactory and like to make systems that can handle a lot of traffic.
But this means more space required and I'm not a fan of building in the sky. Truck stations and drone ports always fit anywhere but train stations never do.

I've had a rail network spanning the map with maybe two dozen individual trains sharing it. Has something changed that makes this unworkable? It was kind of the game's best feature.

I'd rather run long belts than build rail. Seems like less effort and works better for me. Trains should be cool but they are just too much PITA to get set up properly. I'd take trucks and drones over trains any day in this game.

The worst part about trains for me is the lack of dedicated parts such as dual rail tracks, 90 degree turn parts, no structure parts with tracks on them, etc.

No it hasn't changed. I actually like the trains in this game, but it can be confusing, especially if you have issues with signalling. Though, for me, its just remember that for every junction, you need a path or block signal on the entrance of each connection (note this cant be mixed, its all paths OR all block signals, not a mix n match otherwise it wont work) and a block or a path signal on each exit of the junction (this can be a mix of pathing and blocking signals)
You can just make dual tracks. It's not a big deal.

It took me a while to realise you can drag and drop the stations in the 'Edit Timetable' screen so the game gets the order right. That resolves the "station unreachable' error for me.

The top station needs to be the one the train is currently at, next station below and so on. It doesn't matter which way any intermediate stations are pointing relative to either end station as long as the timetable reflects the arrival order.

Is it, in a logical sense, a single, circular track? Like train's running A to B and should continue in the same direction of driving back to A (using turning loops around the stations)? Then your problem is the direction of one of the stations.
No good:
/--<A-----B>---\
| |
\----------------/
Good:
/--<A-----<B---\
| |
\----------------/

If you want to run back'n'forth between A and B the stations are ok, but you need two engines, one at either end, facing outwards. Using multiple trains then requires the addition of signals, forcing the trains unto the appropriate directional track which you have to add as either sidings or full double track.

<A--\--S--------<ecce>---/---B>
\-x-<ecce>------S--/
(e=engine, c=car, S= signal, A&B stations with dir. ind.)

The latter layout has the inherent risk of deadlocking trains, meaning the trains can block each other and thus must be implemented carefully. The example can't work with 2 trains as shown bc the upper train will prevent the lower signal from clearing and vice versa. Adding ONE signal (x) on the beginning of ONE branch will solve this issue, But then the trains will run irregularly with different gaps between them. Adding another (x) in the opposite branch can help to run trains in regular intervals, but then again an out of schedule train can trap its predecessor in a station, causing disruptions

I've only ever used a single track and train with engines both front and back. Never had an unreachable problem, though you have to becareful to remember exactly what cars are hauling what stuff.
