Using Automated Gate as a hatch.

I am testing some of my ideas while waiting for 1.0 and tried to build a hatch for a drone.
Has anyone figure out how to put gates parallel to the ground or floor?
Is there a way to do such thing without using mods?

Aesthetically a neat idea, but would a gate even react to the drone? I feel like since the interaction was never intended, drones would just fly straight through without opening.

Yeah, I doubt it - they fly through/clip everything anyway.
Prolly better off using the always open archway pieces instead unfortunately, assuming they're big enough for the drones.. For the time being, Infinite Nudge is the best option.

Trains clip through everything yet the automated gate reacts to approaching train and opens. Without testing it's hard to tell but since it's not possoble then well... We won't find out. :D

[Virtual Ocean Horizon]

Build a tower tall enough until its departure height and then put a gate there. Doing so might also cause the drone to fly further vertically, necessitating a taller tower. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
