Bought on Epic, want to launch on Steam & use overlay...
I've got the non-steam game added pointing to the .exe, but when I launch via Steam, it says "running" for a moment, then goes back to "Play".

The game actually launches & runs, but I can't get the Steam overlay to work/recognize that it's running.

Anyone got some steps on how to accomplish this?

What's the point of buying it on Epic if you want to use it on Steam?

Only one real and honest solution here.
If you want to use a service, buy from that service.

Sadly this is the answer OP.
The very early adopters (myself included) had to buy it on Epic as at the time it was only available there. I ended up buying the steam version back in Update 7(ish).

I don't know, maybe because it wasn't always sold on Steam. Steam isn't the end all be all of gaming.

Then just play the game on Epic. You know, he could've just waited until the game was made available on Steam if he really wanted to play it on there.

Well fine. So play it on the service you bought it on then. Problem solved.

How would op know if and when it would be available on steam? This was during the big steam vs epic wars, where epic handed out free games like candy.

I understand the dilemma op is in. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. But to be honest, the same would apply to anything in life.
You buy a product, you have to drive to the neighbor city because it is not available in yours.
A few months later it becomes available in your home town, and at a discounted price on top of it.

Pretty sure there is a wait to add a non-steam game to the list to launch the game....\
yeah Add Non-Steam Game to Library on under Games on the top bar of Steam

It was always clearly communicated, that the Epic release was an one year exclusive and then would be released on Steam.

So I waited the one year to only buy it on Steam, because I didnt like the "one year exclusive" deals on epic and did nor want to support it, even if I had to wait.

Epic does things to intentionally make the steam overlay not work when you do that. They put tons of time and effort to trying to make steam look bad and not be compatible, in reality it is only their own consumers that suffer.

Some people here trying to do impressions of "StackOverflow" instead of trying to actually help the person. At least WinterSolstice had something useful to add, and I'm hoping that helped solve OPs problem.

Actually, it kinda is. Even blizzard starts posting their games on steam. Epic is terrible. Uhh what else is there? LOL. (sarcasm but you get it)

i once used to use epic for buying games...

sad thing is, every single time i i booted up that monstrocity, it started scanning my whole drive...

but how do you know it did?
back then my epic client was installed on a "normal" HD, not an SSD, and that thing started spinning like crazy whenever i booted up epic. and before you mention it: epic was the only thing installed on that drive, and some random game footage i captured...
it was only a 2Tb drive, it had about 1,2 Tb of raqndom gaming footage on it.

so why it always had to rescan that drive, i had no clue, but after only 3 months of using it, i deleted the whole epic pile of poop from that drive, and never went back.

and yes, i did play satisfactory on that platform, i was happy to wait however long it would take, just so i would not have to deal with "sneaky scanning anything on your drive" software...
