Multiple freight platforms and different train stations.

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of constructing/conceptualizing my next factories, one small and contained, one large and having every resource around the world funneled into it.

I've had issues with trains going back and forth, never did a closed loop, ever since I can remember and now I simply decided to start building big loops.

So, for example, going with this layout:
Train, freight car (or what it's called), freight car, freight car, (used to be second train for back and forth shenanigans, but as I said I'm just going with loops)

Three train stations:

1 - Main station to unload everything: train station, (freight) platform, platform, platform

2 - Pick up single resource station: train station, platform

3 - Pick up two additional resources station: train station, platform, platform

Does the train basically fill up the first car when it passes 2 and then the remaining empty ones when it reaches 3?

If not, how does one construct train stations properly for several pickups?

That's not how it works. The locomotive stops at the station, and then a freight platform will only load/unload the single adjacent wagon.

Therefore, if you wanted to access only the 3rd wagon, you would need Station, Empty Platform, Empty Platform, Freight Platform

Could this perhaps also be the reason for getting the message "can't reach next destination"?

That's what I got with my back and forth setup. I definitely have the platforms ordered wrong right now.
