I mean that they won't spawn / appear as you would it to be
To do that just follow these instructions
Here's a link to see how it looks like

I think you missed a part.
To disable them totally you have to turn on AGS sadly
If I'd dealt with headcrabs I think alien spiders would freak me out too.
As others have said, mods or advanced game settings. The cats just make them harder to hit anyway because they still have the spider hitbox

With passive mode you can avoid most of the combat. in some places the spiders fight other creatures.
Or when you stand on top of a hatcher the flies can hit and damage you.
But not other fears or anxieties? Why only spiders?
It's a very common fear that's specific enough to not need much of the game to be altered I guess. They've also added a setting for misophobia (sound of eating)
There are globophobics who freak out playing Frontier:Elite. I get that. The way the planets come at you would be frightening, especially in VR, if you had that phobia.
Then there's Richie's Plank Experience, which goes of of its way to frighten people like me who have lots of vertigo.
See, your problem is that you get out of the house too much, and you have too many interesting interpersonal experiences. You should be holed up in your basement with a crippling videogame addiction, and then you'd know these things.
Anyway, here's an article on some of the more obvious games, I'm sure you can find more... if you dare... with the lights out... AHHH! WHAT'S THAT BEHIND YOU!!?!?*
