IIf the CPU is getting that hot it means the cooling system cant keep up and the computer is likely underclocking the CPU to reduce heat and prevent damage. When this happens it may affect the game play because you are no longer using your full CPU speed while the CPU is overheating,
I myself have an i7 7700 and it pretty much keeps pace with things but I do a cleaning of heatsinks and airflow vents every year so I never run into too many issues.
Its the temp of the CPU that draws my attention. If he can lower the temp I think the CPU he has will run much much better and the game experience will improve.
Also another reason a CPU might not be cooling as well as it used to is the thermal paste drying out. Depending on the type of paste used and how well it was applied it could last years or even wear out in a matter of months, If cleaning out the air flow and heatsinks doesnt help I would consider having a PC tech replace your thermal paste. There is no harm in doing it and you might see better thermal management of the CPU.
Basically such protection just lower clock and speed to prevent temperature to go even higher.
Check your system like someone said... May be something broke and can't handle temperature dispersion as before
I prefer liquid cooling personally. Don't know if that's an option for your build.
Just looked online and typical TJ Max happens to be 90C for most modern CPUs. So if your CPU it at 90C or higher it is being throttled.
Running an i9 here and my CPU barely breaks a sweat - 50% Load or less at 60C Or less temp.
Not the game.
Anything over 70C Makes me very cringe frankly - and he's way beyond that.
And he's running Linux which is confusing all the more.
(I run my systems very cold - to prolong life)
Laptops by definition run hot due to the inability to have a proper cooling setup like a Tower (or a desk in my case :P)
Even then - I've played Satisfactory on a laptop - hell even a Steamdeck - they don't run that hot - they just don't.
Considering my background in Datacenter Engineering - it's not unreasonable for someone to obtain parts on the cheap (used or otherwise) - hardware is easy to come by if you know where to go.
Now as to why someone would run Satisfactory on a "Server" in terms of hardware configuration is an entirely different question - short of building a Dedicated Server.
Not saying he's using used hardware - just saying making presumptions may not be a good idea. :)
You'd be surprised what you can get your hands on is my point. - Now why he picked those components - that's the question. ;)
