Yes, the better you get.
The only non-spoilery advice I will give for now is always think big, and use lots of space.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Go back into your trailer kid.
there are plenty of places where iron, copper and limestone are all pretty close to each other.
The further you head away from that area however - the harder it is to find iron/copper together - until you reach an another "Starting area" - it comes down to what you need and what your trying to do.
Exploration is a part of the game - be ready to venture out at some point as you will need resources that are not in the immediate area.
Thankfully your not really on a timer - so take the time you need to figure it out.
And yes it will improve - but that depends on entirely your level of stubbornness/tenacity/willingness to get it done.
No reward without effort and a pinch of risk.
You'll get access to various transportation methods - and the large world starts to shrink pretty quickly.
EDIT: if you've not figured it out yet - learn to use your scanner (tap the V Key - or hold it to change what its scanning for) - will help you zero in on your targets. Watch out for hogs.
There's a level of "slewing" on starting points - the region is consistent - but where you land changes each time. Hence the RNG comment made by Fennix.
Each time I start - I end up "taking a walk" to my usual area because it missed - same region - but not always the same start area.
That's been my main complaint. You NEVER unlock anything that will fly around the map. Ya gotta hop or scrape.
Game is painful to play. Nothing is hard, just extremely time consuming because of the massive map, and the devs being tied to slow fps movement. No free build mode.
Wait until you start rebuilding, and have to re-run truck routes. You're gonna uninstall.
Hard proof you are straight up lying and can be disregarded.
But anyway OP, while it depends somewhat on where exactly you spawned, iron and copper should be within easy reach of each other somewhere nearby each spawn location. Otherwise though, transporting resources is a basic logistical problem you will have to solve throughout the game that you get steadily better tools to do.
Agreed.
Northern Forest is where I start - very rich nodes there.
There's a spot I always start at that's got 4-5 iron nodes and 1 juicy copper node.
May have to travel a bit - but its within reach easily.
You dont have to start where the resources are far apart...when you land do scout around a bit and see what is out there. And dont be afraid to pack up the hub and move if you find a better place early on in the game.
Chances are the distance between that copper and iron you found is noting compared to what you will soon have to travel for to when you need to deal with things like oil/sulfur/quartz and the even more rare things on the map.
I also have started there as well as the coast of the rocky desert for all the coal, but of late I have been starting in grasslands. 27 iron nodes, 7 cooper, tons of limestone. But what I like the best is the relative flatness. Plus there is a good pair of coal by the lake for early power.
Grasslands have more nodes but are poorer in purity from what I've seen said - but then 1.0 may have changed that.
Generally the most popular starting points are usually the Northern Forest or the Desert.
But to each their own.
