Problem to start from the beginning when joining a new server
Hi guys,

I set up a Linux server with LinuxGSM on a remote Linux root server and I am able to join the server, but when I add the server ingame, it creates the server but then always start at level 2 and not with the introduction phase.
I can build some things already and also have some crafted materials in my inventory, like cables.
First objective is to build the HUB.

How do I have to set the server up to start from the very beginning, so with the landing scene on the planet and then with all introductions?
Or is this not possible and starting at level 2 is set by default when you create a server?

When I start a local game, everything is fine and I start from the beginning...

Any help would be appreciated! ;)

AFAIK Tutorial scene/section isn't available to those who use dedicated's.
Something they are working on - supposedly.

Servers Skip Onboarding, you should start at with Tier 1/Tier 2 Milestones

OK, thanks for the info.

Another short question that came to my mind, do you know where I can set the server name in the config files?
When I start or restart the server, I get the following message in Putty:

[ OK ] Starting sfserver: NOT SET

The server starts, but I don´t know where to change the name in the config files...

I don't think you can, you set that when you connect to it for the 1st time via the game.
When you claim the server, you set it's name, on that 1st log in.
But I also don't know what Putty is... so...

Putty is the tool that I use to connect to the root server.
Yes, I changed it ingame but it seems that this doesn't change the name in the config files...

The server name is saved in the ServerSettings.7777.sav file, found in same location as saved games. But it's not a text file so trying to edit that file with a text editor breaks it and prevents the server from staring up. Maybe there is an editor for that, I don't know.

You're supposed to change the server name using the in-game Server Manager.

It's an SSH client for Windows, though now you can SSH from Windows Terminal too.

Hey Zak is back. Enjoy Ficsmas and the whole festive silly time :)

Hi Gordon, thanks. Yeah, played some other games for a while, tinkered with other, non-gaming stuff. Not sure if I want to play this game though, I loaded my last save and the game crashed within couple of minutes and keeps crashing and I don't feel like starting a new save or troubleshooting this issue, it's probably the mods, but it's all up to date.

It never crashed on my, your guessing about the mods might be right.

I've also bought The Outer Worlds, I should give it a try :ccveryhappy:

At moment I'm busy trying to wrap y head around Factorio Space Age

Yesterday I helped Fenix (or from his perspective maybe "bugged Fenix") to make his final parts. The machines and technology in the last tier are really amazing, and the lore (probably CSS borrowed a bit from Ann Lekie's "Ancilliary Justice" trilogy about the Radch Empire), both gave perfect sci-fi vibes :steamhappy:

The only pity is that blueprinter mk3 comes so short before the end. So instead of taking refuge to a second save with AGS turned on to make my blueprints there and import it to my current game, I might follow he friendly suggestion of Still B0r3d and unlock just that very mk.3 blueprinter in SCIM - saves a lot of tedious savegame swapping and b-prints importing.

It's a really, really great space opera trilogy, full of new concepts (which meanwhile got copied by a whole bunch of other authors). Ann Lekie (from the Netherlands) is a fantastic author :hjpstar:

I played The Outer Worlds earlier this year and I've just played The Outer Worlds The Spacer's Edition, twice in a row. It's probably one of the most underrated games in a long time. Lots of fun.

Factorio is just not my type of a game because of the 2D top-down gameplay. The only games like that, that I can play are RTS games.

I've played some older games, Deus Ex games, and I'm thinking about replaying Dishonored games and maybe going back to Borderlands. I don't see anything interesting among the new games.

Important Quetstion: Do I need the base game AND all DLC's do play the Spacer's Choice Edition?

Factorio: it's really not easy to get into it, and it really strains my eyes. But I see how productive and industrious Fenix is and now it's like an ambition thing to learn it. Self-flagellation. But there is also joy in it https://wiki.factorio.com/images/Inserter_fishing.gif Especially the second half of the game is where it will fully unfold with functionalities Satisfactory has not (yet).

It's funny: all the Deus-Ex and Honored are also in my library. Always wanted to play them but somehow never started. The new edition of Half-Life 2 is now also out there.

Of all that: You made me most curious about that Spacer's Choice Edition. When you played it twice in a row it simply must be awesome.

Spacer's Choice Edition is a separate game. You don't need to own the original game nor the DLC.

Spacer's Choice Edition has the DLC already integrated, improved graphics, new lighting effects, increased level cap and probably few other things but it's not a drastically different game. The reason I played it twice was because I haven't played the original with the DLC and I missed some options during the first playthrough and wanted different outcomes for some quests. If you just played the original with the DLC then Spacer's Choice Edition will not feel very different.

I played Deus Ex Human Revolution (twice too...) and Mankind Divided. The previous, older games did not age well. Human Revolution is fantastic, probably one of the best games I ever played with zero issues and the graphics hold up. Mankind Divided has much better graphics but it's not as good otherwise and has numerous UI, gameplay and stability problems.

A pity ADA is not particapating. But she is out there ...
