Innovative Gameplay Award?
Cant understand why this game got nominated for this award.

Dont get me wrong, I love the game and I spent some hours in game, but the gameplay is everything but not innovative. The market is full of factory building games. Ok, this is 3D, but there are also plenty of 3D ressource mining and exploring games.

Satisfactory still got my vote, because all the other nominated games are not more innovative either.

Whats your opinion on this?

I've been doing this computer video gaming thing for well over 25 yrs and this is in MY opinion one of the most innovative games I have played for a first person SIM. Sure there are others out there that I could name that are a very close 2nd but Satisfactory is by far one of the most time wasting PC games I have played in my 65ish years., Empyrion Galactic Survival being one of those....

I completly agree, you can waste some serious amount if time and it is still fun!

But: factory building: Factorio, Little Big Workshop, Scrap 2 or however it is called, etc.
3D exploring and minig: Astroneer, No Man Sky, etc.

It is a good combination of both mechanics, but I dont think it is innovative. Still, I voted for SF :)

The awards and their nominations are popularity polls. That's all you need to know really. If you go looking for any kind of logic, you won't find it.

This.

I voted for it too, but most innovated? Yes I love the game and am having a blast playing it, but nothing made me go wow! That's so new! (I suppose the graphics could be considered, but I feel like it's more of a game play award)

The innovation makes sense considering the 3D Nature of the game Factory wise - there wasn't anything to compare this game too when I started playing it back then short of Factorio and as great as that game is - its 2D Flatness made Satisfactroy stand on its own.

The mistake people tend to make in comparing this game is treating it like some Call of Duty game or some other grand AAA adventure game - innovation could be something as simple as concept or the premise of the game.

Course as its been pointed out - its a matter of what the public has said - and not everyone will agree with it.

Even though I take very little stock in it.

Frankly I fail to see any originality in games these days - there's not really anything out there hasn't ripped off some game somewhere - the factory concept may not be a new thing - but Satisfactory has earned the right to be called innovative as far as I'm concerned in its own right.

How many other "3D Factory" games have spawned as a result of Satisfactory's presence? Keep in mind Satisfactory has been around for several years. Not talking since 1.0. :P

Makes you ponder to be sure.

But that's just my two cents for what's its worth.

Just simply dont take the Steam Awards seriously...
Its just a massive ♥♥♥♥-measuring contest which means ♥♥♥♥-all.

Its basically always games that dont deserve to be nominated for their respective category that win.

And what game do you think was more deserving of the nomination?

The bar for innovation is pretty low. Everything has been done before, or is just a couple of ideas combined in a new way.

"So its just factory builder but in a big open world?" compared to most things, that's actually pretty innovative. It's technically challenging to simulate a huge user created factory in 3D with large draw distances and massive amounts of things being moved around.

So yes, Satisfactory is worthy of this award, not least because of the fresh AESTHETIC it brings while doing these things. It's a unique experience.

I'm more innovative and so's my wife!

I kind of waited for this question, but I dont have a proper answer, since I played only SF this year in a extended kind. So I dont have proper overview whats new and whats not.

But Manor Lords for example is pretty innovative imho. Not the medieval city builder concept, but the multiple cities/villages concept and especially the way, buildings are built: an ox carries a log, the log gets sawn down and so on and after all you literally see people work in those buildings.

But yeah, Settlers III had this aswell kind of.

Innovation is hard to do - thats I was asking the community, what they think.

I guess when all the games this year are not that innovative the bar is set pretty low and satisfactory is thrust to the forefront,

I was trying getting into Techtonica, and currently I am trying to get into Factorio. Compared with these two games Satisfactory is indeed very innovative.

  • You dont hold materials in your hands, just tools.
  • Machine and belt speeds are clearly defined in a easy to grasp with "X items per minute". In Factorio you have get speed in this format: "0.43 seconds per unit". Or "crafting speed 2" and "crafting time 3". It really takes an effort to process and understand these things. Intuitive understanding is far less in this game.
  • The UI in Satisfactory is very intuitive. I always know where to find my informations. The only part where I had to try a bit is the settings.
  • I guess I could list more examples if I study a bit more

Satisfactory might not invent the wheel new but it is very easy to get into the game. It is very user friendly and intuitive. Everything has a purpose. It's not too much information but also not too less.

Later on you need to contact the forum or the wiki or a "40 hidden features"-video to discover the some helpful QoL functionalities.

techtonica is close, but that's like calling a grapefruit an orange, sure on the outside they are both orange, but they are vastly different on the inside.

Citrus fruits - is there anything they can't do?
