I completly agree, you can waste some serious amount if time and it is still fun!
But: factory building: Factorio, Little Big Workshop, Scrap 2 or however it is called, etc.
3D exploring and minig: Astroneer, No Man Sky, etc.
It is a good combination of both mechanics, but I dont think it is innovative. Still, I voted for SF :)
This.
I voted for it too, but most innovated? Yes I love the game and am having a blast playing it, but nothing made me go wow! That's so new! (I suppose the graphics could be considered, but I feel like it's more of a game play award)
The mistake people tend to make in comparing this game is treating it like some Call of Duty game or some other grand AAA adventure game - innovation could be something as simple as concept or the premise of the game.
Course as its been pointed out - its a matter of what the public has said - and not everyone will agree with it.
Even though I take very little stock in it.
Frankly I fail to see any originality in games these days - there's not really anything out there hasn't ripped off some game somewhere - the factory concept may not be a new thing - but Satisfactory has earned the right to be called innovative as far as I'm concerned in its own right.
How many other "3D Factory" games have spawned as a result of Satisfactory's presence? Keep in mind Satisfactory has been around for several years. Not talking since 1.0. :P
Makes you ponder to be sure.
But that's just my two cents for what's its worth.
Its just a massive ♥♥♥♥-measuring contest which means ♥♥♥♥-all.
Its basically always games that dont deserve to be nominated for their respective category that win.
"So its just factory builder but in a big open world?" compared to most things, that's actually pretty innovative. It's technically challenging to simulate a huge user created factory in 3D with large draw distances and massive amounts of things being moved around.
So yes, Satisfactory is worthy of this award, not least because of the fresh AESTHETIC it brings while doing these things. It's a unique experience.
I kind of waited for this question, but I dont have a proper answer, since I played only SF this year in a extended kind. So I dont have proper overview whats new and whats not.
But Manor Lords for example is pretty innovative imho. Not the medieval city builder concept, but the multiple cities/villages concept and especially the way, buildings are built: an ox carries a log, the log gets sawn down and so on and after all you literally see people work in those buildings.
But yeah, Settlers III had this aswell kind of.
Innovation is hard to do - thats I was asking the community, what they think.
I was trying getting into Techtonica, and currently I am trying to get into Factorio. Compared with these two games Satisfactory is indeed very innovative.
Satisfactory might not invent the wheel new but it is very easy to get into the game. It is very user friendly and intuitive. Everything has a purpose. It's not too much information but also not too less.
Later on you need to contact the forum or the wiki or a "40 hidden features"-video to discover the some helpful QoL functionalities.
I call that innovative.
