about to start with oil power
i'm about to start with oil power but i don't know how to begin.

from a tutorial-video on youtube i saw the following set-up:
1 oil extractor (pure) => 2 refineries making feul and resin => 4 feul-power generators (putting the resin into sink)
#using mark 2 pipes and mark 4 belts

i did some calculations with the following setup in AGS-mode (no power required):
1 oil extractor (normal) (overclock 3 shards) => 4 refineries making feul and resin (overclock 1 shard each) => 8 feul-power generators and 4 refineries (2x plastic and 2x rubber from resin and water)
#using mark 1 pipes and mark 3 belts
this would give me a steady 2000 MW power while using just under 200 MW for the powerplant alone

is this calculation and the set-up correct or am i missing something?

Sounds about right, with just in the head math (which is never a good idea for me)
Consider investing directly into fuel power using the Diluted Packaged Fuel alt recipe. This will supply 32 Fuel Generators (8000MW, not counting the power cost of the fuel factory) for just 120 Oil (1x normal node) plus Water.

* Oil -> Heavy Oil Residue (alt) (+ resin, to sink or use elsewhere)
* Water + Canisters -> Packaged Water
* Packaged Water + Heavy Oil Residue -> Packaged Fuel (alt, Diluted Packaged Fuel)
* Packaged Fuel -> Fuel + Canisters

There is no continuing cost of Canisters, you get the same in as out so you can endlessly recycle. But you'll need to pre-make several stacks of Empty Canisters to prepopulate the system. The rule of thumb I use is two stacks for every machine that handles Canisters or packaged liquid, with a buffer container.

One extractor on a pure node gives 240 flow. That's enough for 4 refineries which eat 60/min. 60 x 4 = 240.

if you overclock it to 1,25 the node will gives 300 flow, which is enough for 5 refineries and the most mark 1 pipes will take.

5 refineries gives about 2500 power through 10 fuel generators. 4 is 2000 power through 8.

Hope this helps

so my calculations are correct?
thanks for the answers

Consider also looking for hard drives. There is an alternative recipe that allow you to "break" crude oil into residue and another one that allow you to mix residue and water to get fuel. (This require a blender, make sure you unlocked this machine before using all your HDD).

The conbination of thoses 2 alt recipe allow you to get quadruple fuel than just puting crude oil in a refinery.

i wanna do a basic recipe only walktrough in my main game, but thanks for the advice
Keep in mind with anything involving fluids, you will experience issues because it doesn't flow perfectly even through the pipes like it was a conveyor belt. There are a lot of solutions to this problem but what I generally did was just setup a buffer at a high point in the system and let everything prefill a bit before starting up the generators.

Which is a great reason to turn the oil into Rocket fuel. Rocket fuel is a gas , and in this game there are no fluid dynamics to deal with.
Ive got mine set up using turbofuel, with the excess fuel getting packaged up for trucks and my jetpack.

Oil/fuel is an evolving process in this game. At some point plastic and rubber may become more valuable, You can have both in time.
