How to have Truck pick up one type of item from Depot
How do i get the truck to only pick up one type of item from the depot or do i need to make a separate depot for each item?

Yes, you need to make another truck station and smart split your belt
Depots are like stationary cargo cans - what you stick in them - is what they load or unload depending on context - ignoring the fuel section.

You can mix and sort with a Smart Splitter - or make more depots that carry specific items.

You need to make a depot for each item you want to load.

I did this on a new game and I think it broke my depots though.
I can't seem to get my depots to work lately. I have them set correctly for load and unload along with power but I can't pick up or unload for some reason.

Smart Truck Driver mod.
smart splitter on arrival is better than multiple pickups, also, I'd advise to try tractors instead of trucks, trucks are so clunky while tractors move better, coal is a non issue anyway, with a single node you can feed coal to vehicles forever, but if trucks work for you then that's good too

i dont understand what you mean by use a smart splitter. do you mean the truck picks up all random items, then when it gets to destination it drops in depot and from there a smart splitter sends where needed?
A smart splitter lets you program each output port to only allow certain types of items through, among other things. So for your purpose here it likely would be the easiest and most reliable option.

Yeah, that's pretty much it... Build an item sorting machine using smart splitters to put each type of item onto separate belts. My current oil base exports 5 different items to the main base, all through one truck depot.

Yeah, that's pretty much it... Build an item sorting machine using smart splitters to put each type of item onto separate belts. My current oil base exports 5 different items to the main base, all through one truck depot.

Over time your highest producing item would end up clogging up that depot. How do you keep it balanced so your getting the target number of items for each run?

That's easy.

You observe how many of said items are packed in the Truck - then you take into account the speed of the Belt.

Now if your production line is timing dependent (can't afford gaps, etc.) - you'll need to dedicate that cargo to the said item to ensure there's no interruption.

You can also set up a Cargo Can to buffer the goods and build up a supply before you use it.

This is how I do it:
Smart splitter (one side) ->item I want to filter (other side)-> overflow
Then the next one the same, 1 or more items to either side then overflow, all of them going into containers, until you get to the very end where you only receive any clogged up items, this goes into a container too then into a sink.

I deliberately sent part of the production of that item to the sink early and laid on extra vehicles so that the depot was never so full that there was stuff left after a truck departed.

To be fair, the base was a mass of spaghetti with all of the overflow control management I did, but in essence, I was counting very carefully how much was produced and how much delivery capacity I had... If anything backed up anywhere? recycle it for tickets.

You build a manifold of smart splitters on the receiving end. Left side: Item A. Right side: Item B. Center: Overflow.

Then you keep repeating that setup. I usually set maybe 10 containers, 10 smart splitters on my receiving lines. I've never needed more than that. My first two containers will be, say, coal and caterium. My second two would be iron and copper. Etc.

The overflow output on that final splitter you run to a sink.

I can't seem to get my depots to work lately. I have them set correctly for load and unload along with power but I can't pick up or unload for some reason.
I've started seeing this, too. Typically when I drive up to a depot I have to exit the vehicle and open the depot configuration, then flip Load/Unload switch and flip it back. Close config screen, re-enter truck, then 'F' to load or unload generally works. Occasionally have to do it again.

Yes I could set up automatic truck routes but that's too much extra work right now, would need to set up better automation of fuel distribution to depots, and that's a distraction from my primary goal of getting to aluminum, hover pack (which I now have), fuel power (now started), and all the myriad other things I need. Will build train network before relying on truck automated deliver anyway.

I think there's one or more outstanding bugs about the truck load/unload issues, too lazy to go look them up right now. Hope this helps.

Don't make the mistake of using multiple trucks and then splitting afterwards at the depot. always split before to avoid any issues.
