grapple hook?
hello! i was wondering why Ficsit™ has not supplied us with a grappling hook. if we were to be supplied a grappling hook. we could get up to ledges without needing to build foundations. this would lead to a more efficient way of traversing up and down.

you can build a power line and use the zip line to go up and down.
Jet Pack - Hover Pack - Jumping Ramp (may not be called this) - Hypertubes - plenty of ways to get up where you need to go. (in addition to zip line)
yes but, what if you cant afford a power pole/powerline? and you would need to power the jump pad/hoverpack. and yes, jetpack is a nice solution.
so Kage Goomba has a point.

If they added a Grapple hook, it really would just be "Just Cause, Factory Edition" because the Parachute acts a lot like the Just Cause games

Dimensional Depots, once setup make this a nonissue.
The zipline works without power.

The day you can't afford a power pole/power line material wise is an indication of a much bigger problem.

Very cheap materials - unless your talking Mk2/Mk3.

1 slot for cable and 1 for copper wire and maybe 1 for iron rods is enough materials to go a very very very long ways on a power line.

Also dimensional depot is a thing.

If you can't afford a powerline/pole you certainly can't afford a grapple hook

Pretty sure Don means a hand slot item, infinitely reusable, or maybe ammo based, where you use pre-made the ammo. (say an 1 Iron rod and 1 cable)
Could be a Mk2 version of the Rebar gun with a winch to pull you up.
Fun thought, unlikely to ever happen, but still fun.

Honestly I'd love a handheld grapple gun for movement. It could be available earlier than the hoverpack (maybe at a similar point to the blade runners?) to give another option for improved mobility in the somewhat early game, though in that it would still be very similar to the jetpack aside from the fuel requirement. It's not strictly necessary since a combination of the existing movement methods (blade runners + jetpack + slide jump, jetpack + hypertube cannon, etc.) would still ultimately allow for more or less the same overall movement capabilities, but I don't see the harm. It'd certainly be fun to use at the very least (and could even pair quite well with the flight packs for moving around large factories; they're both pretty slow on their own).

i see all of your points. and now i feel dumb for asking. there's a mod for it in case nothing happens tho https://ficsit.app/mod/AsgGrapplingHook

Why grapple when you can fly. Also the Zipline is a thing. Better than grappling.

Eh... debatable
Aiming a grapple gun that pulls toward the grapple point could be fasting than building power poles/tower for ziplining, and because you aren't leaving anything behind, keeps you from having to do clean up of the unneeded Power poles/towers.

i think grapple would take away from almost every form of transportation so id be against one in game, maybe if someone wanted to mod it then that's different.
edit: there's a fun skill in using parachutes to make amazing vertical launcher i recommend learning that skill, gotten me more places then jet packs ever have

Why in blazes would you clean up that stuff? You aren't being graded for ecological purity.
