ARE YOU F&*%ING KIDDING ME!? TIL Zipline...
...doesn't need to be held the whole time if you use right-click. Right-click 'readies' the zipline to hook and you just keep going without having to hold the mouse the whole time... I've only played 645.4 hours across multiple updates, so it's not too bad. :')

It is just like discovering not having to hold space to craft except that was after only 10 hours(and my wife telling me...)

Yep, you can travel across the whole map, while you go to your kitchen to make yourself a sandwich and a coffee.

Such is the life as a pioneer.

It wasn't until my 2nd playthrough that I realised you could manually or portable mine a node that still had the explodable rock on it. I spent so long looking for random caterium chunks for MAM research because I didn't realise I could just hand mine the nearby node.
Also didn't realise I could place multiple portable miners on one node

And I was laying my smartphone on the LMB to auto-craft things.
Also I didn't know about zooping the first several hundred hours.
The MMB is sampling buildings I found out much later.
That I could slide up archs, slopes, hills and mountains with a paraglider - not before I met Fenix.

Such is the life as a pioneer.

Aren't most of these shown as button prompts on the screen when you have the appropriate tool out?

I'm glad you discovered it! I remember the feeling when I first discovered this about the zip line took as well! I love that it remains "readied" even if you jump off the line, which makes transferring to other routes at a power tower with more than just a single straight line so much easier, too. It's a weird omission to the tool tips, especially given how much of a difference it makes.

I didn't find out until many hours into 1.0 that if you've got the run toggle setting on, pressing shift to toggle running also toggles the parachutes faster glide speed. But more than that, there is a different toggle that isn't linked to the same shift press, which is zip-lining. There is a faster zip-line speed if you toggle it with shift. I could have been zipping so much faster and saved so much time if I knew this sooner.

I run into moments like that all the time. I been playing this game since update 2 and there are still things I didnt know until recently.

The right click zipline thing was added in update 8 so it's kinda newish
Knto Dec 7, 2024 @ 11:02am
But did you know you can "run" on the zipline to go faster?

Oh, really!? I didn't play between Update 7 and 1.0. That makes me feel so much better.

I knew that one, but I wish they had separate setting for hold vs toggle for each paragliding, running, and zip lining. I hate holding to 'run' on zipline so I want it always on, but the having to stop to release run and/or toggle mess with either factory platforming or slide jumping.

Wow thanks for that I had no idea either! Holding the mouse button the whole time was kinda tedious :D

At every game start you need to tap shift only 1x to fast zipline all the time. no need to keep it pressed.

they need that toggle to be turned on in the options for that to work.
