The Trucks suck bigly!
...like the title suggests, they suck!

Developers, it you are reading, they suck. The trucks just suck! They need to be smarter. The need to know the cargo they carry so not to get polluted with other cargo due to a glitch (ahem), the need to be smarter as to know when other vehicles are around. They need to be smarter to know to go around things and stuff.

...bottom line, they suck because they are suckety suck suck...bigly!

While they do need improvements. It's entirely possible to work effectively with them in their current state.

If lines are getting polluted then your trucks are too close to stations they shouldn't be. Consider using walls to put a physical barrier between the station and any intruding vehicles. An alternative would be adding a Sink and Smart Splitter to the drop offs to sift the input and bin anything that's not supposed to be there.

If your trucks are colliding enough for it to be a problem then you may need to reconsider the routes they are on, or maybe use bridges to facilitate crossovers. If these collisions are at a station (say, multiple vehicles using the same station) then consider making it like a drive-through, potentially with multiple stations but the key being to not come to a complete stop.

tbh I kind of like their 'dumb', single-minded, AI. The stability of the physics they're beholden to, and the ability to more easily manually manipulate their paths, would be my primary concerns regarding improvements.

So wait the truck runs the EXACT path that you record for them. They ONLY take on board EXACTLY what you tell them to take aboard.

So how do they suck if you are the one setting them up? Sounds like the issue here is user errors. Though as the last guy said they could use improvement the fact is you record the route they are to use and they follow that to the T. So if you hit trees and rocks then when you get out that is what they do. Been like that since the game was dropped on Epic. Better than any other system I have seen as you could not get them to follow your orders more precisely any other way then literally driving the path yourself first. LOL.

The station that loads them only loads what you set it up to load. So again how are they going to improve on that if you already have full control over what is loaded? Perhaps consider finding someone to play Co op with and learn how they do things. Seems maybe you are struggling with the game.

I will say I don't think it's quite exact. I'm pretty sure the pathing is simpler, it just goes between the nodes placed while recording, with I think a bit of speed control based on the distance between the nodes, so it may cut the odd corner. Though, regardless, it is best to clear the way with a chainsaw or nobelisks, if you aren't going to just pave foundations over it.

Give trucks a wide road so they won't do anything dumb.
Coal is a very easy system to set up for trucks. Drive from A to B, and it comes with its own refueling setup as well.

I haven't had any issues using the trucks but all of mine run on purpose built roads, their paths are smooth with no obstacles. I will say their usage in game is kind of limited, belts always win, and long distance, trains all the way.

Quality of the road is totally irrelevant if you're out of range.

I've totally blocked a truck route with a railway track before, when I was converting it. The truck carried on making the trip with zero issue.

Trucks work fine, I just think trains are far superior. Unless you are really making a massive base and need resources from a lot of additional nodes prior to unlocking trains, they just don't seem worth the effort.

Trucks will do what you tell them to do. I would allow a double wide road for trucks, only because they are a bit wider than tractors. If you want to use single wide roads, use tractors.

They dont need to be smarter, the person setting up the runs needs to take their limitations into account and not drive near other trucks truckstops. Set them up like you would a motorway. Would you unload a truck by the side of the m25, or would you pull it into a truck stop to do that work?

What do you mean I can't unload here? I've put my hazards on and everything!

"Spanish parking" in a nutshell.

I did actually realise my mistake after i typed that....the m25 never moves...its basically a 3 lane car park. You could organise a brass band to walk down the length without issue.
