Explosive rebar vs rifle
Whats better for combat, you unlock explosive rebar ammo for the rebar gun and the rifle at the same time

Neither is objectively better. Explosive rebar does a ton of damage, killing weaker enemies with one direct hit, but requires careful aiming and is slow to fire. It can be hard to hit far away or moving targets due to the projectile's ballistic trajectory. The rifle is hitscan (meaning it instantly hits exactly where you aim) and has a fast rate of fire but does low damage per bullet. Homing rifle ammo makes aiming even easier, but is more expensive to produce.

The reload time for just one shot of the rebar is a dealbreaker for me.

Pest control combo: Homing rifle ammo (1000-1500 rounds) + turbo fuel jetpack (100-150 units). Reload while airborne, use high (60m) platforms when dealing with multiple alpha or poison stingers.

After a bit of practice they just don't stand a chance.
If you attack from very far they can't even detect you and sometimes attack each others^^

I haven't even made the gun and its ammo in my 2300+ hours.
I went directly to the rifle with homing ammunition.
and for blasting I still have the grenades or the snowballs that I have in large quantity and can still produce outside the Christmas period.

I use the rifle with the homing rounds on most things (I switch to default for the bug spawners) and cluster bombs to either hit the creatures or clear their cover (again default nobelisks for rock clearing)

While I like the explosive rebar more than rifle even with homing rounds, I don't like how it destroys the greenery. So I rarely use it.

Yes I can understand I also do not like to destroy nature and now with U8 everything has come back and will only remove what grows in my factories and also on the tracks everything else I leave standing.

My solution is to build a "hunting shack" blueprint. It's an evolving design, and it seems like there might be a couple of variants depending on what type of creature I'm dealing with. The current design for spiders is a pedistool made from 2 stacked 8 M foundations surrounded by large framework pillars, and sides made of 1 M wall then a 1 M space and repeat. Then I usually go with HV ammo for the rifle. The explosive rebar is a step up from Nobilisk as it's easier to hit what your wanting to blow up, for me, as I play experimental, that's destructible rocks or poison pillars if they're inhibiting me from grabing something.

Run up to them, shoot em in the face with a stun rebar, switch to melee and wack em in the butt with your light saber, most things will be dead before they come out of stun and can turn around and hit you.
