terraform
are we gonna actually be able to terra-form this planet? it's a pain in the ass to keep building up and or around everything, getting very annoyed

Games with terraforming have it from the very start because those games have a voxel based engine (and often some degree of procedural generation). Coffee Stain have instead opted for a hand-crafted world which unfortunately means static terrain. But as a trade off, it's freaking gorgeous.

you can use foundations or cheat bury buildings into the landscape

Theres a few things we have been told that will never be added in satisfactory. Terraform is amongst them.

guess i'll just have to keep building up and around the environment. but i guess that mean i can try to be more creative by using the environment

foundations in the sky are the best and fasted way to build huge factorys

These days I start my factories at ten levels high. This gives me the freedom to have all the belts and lifts under the floor (keeping the factory neat with straight paths to drive through .

How do you define "level"? A 4m high wall/foundation?

What should be terraformed on this planet? Terraforming means creating a breathable atmosphere with the right pressure and temperature and the presence of water. Thats already the case here,

Personally I like the challenge of having it as it is, the lack of terraforming is part of it's appeal to me.

Most levels, at least to me are about 2 or 3 walls high depending on what your putting in the structure.

When in doubt - make it taller. My first base was 5x 4m tall and it was nowhere near enough lol.

well my idea of terraforming is basically moving and destroying and recreating the land to suit my needs, but from what people have said that will not happen in this game. so i will now just incorporate the landscape like one has mentioned or like others have said build higher, so i will also do that

no there will never be terraforming because the game was specifically designed without that in mind.

The way CS has approached lighting and rendering in order to achieve such good performance for buildings doesn't work with voxel based solutions. This is why the "terraforming" available in the game is purely mesh based where you are essentially just removing obstacles.

the terrain is designed to make you think how best to make use of it.
I built one of my bases on floating foundations on the big lake near the waterfalls.

The stepped levels of the grassy fields is awkward to build on as their are some stepped levels but thats easy to overcome , make a few foundations on top of cliff edge then build outwards and box in the slopes , you now have a level area big enough to put something on.
