So, there is a story?

I have about 60 hours on my new 1.0 save.
I haven't encountered anything that looks like the story besides ADA talking to the Mercer Spheres and that can't really be it, can it?
They talked about something like World Events. So far no idea, what they were talking about

It's not really a story, more of a narrative. Or even just bits of lore that are loosely interconnected and delivered via ADA and it's interactions. Don't expect an actual story because there isn't one.

Only two threads I know of: the one you mentioned, and the overall "Help Save the Earth" goal of completing all the Project Assembly phases. What story there is is more like lore rather than an active "current events" sort, and is pretty much all coming to you through ADA's commentary.

Apparently the devs got cold feet over having a story because they didn't want to gate the factory building behind it (which was... not a danger?) so they scaled it way back. It would appear to be less of a story now, and is now just the back-and-forth between ADA and the Spheres.

I'm up to tier 7/8, probably similar progression to you. Unless actual story content is in/after tier 9, it would seem what you reference in the spoiler is what is supposed to pass as "story content."

I am very disappointed in the lack of continuation from ADA when you pick up the mercer spheres. Last line refers to working on removing/changing the current method of communication and that's the end of it. Big shame, especially as there isn't even another line when you hit the 150 mercer sphere achievement.

I mean, sure there's your own "personal journey" but it's not like this is Minecraft and they didn't suggest there isn't something going on... It's an alien world, answers or more significant progress towards *something* re. the SAM etc. would be nice.

Yeah, after completing the whole game and all achievements it sucks to not have ANY conclusion/clarification about the whole project assembly, destroyed ships with hard drives or mercer spheres/somersloops. I didn't really expect anything cool really, but I hoped there would be some "wow" effect at some point. And we got literally nothing
