I don't even think that is that slow. The game should take nowhere near that bandwidth and I wouldn't consider it as a probable cause.
According to this article the game is limited to 64KB/s so 50Mb should be way overkill

I did see someone else complaining about this, and I asked for them to provide ping information to gather some data for analysis, but they never came back with anything.
Maybe someone here can provide some data about latency while gaming.
Just ping cloudflares dns while gaming, open a cmd and type:
And then shut down the game and do the same thing again and compare the response times.
You can obv ping the server ip itself too, but comparing to another server is probably more useful to find out if this is slowing down the server or the client while gaming.
The reason I am curious about this, is because that other user, said that he/she could not even browse the internet while in game...
A connection between a server and clients consists of hops. It is not like an end-to-end connection, there're a lot of servers in the middle. Ofc, there're tools that can tracert the servers.
For instance, my friend and I have the best possible internet provider. My friend is in another country. A few days ago our connection used some server in Belgium that was not ok: 300 ms ping, 1 mbits upload/download, 10th hop lost 50% packages + my wifi created 2500 ms latency due to the server. Since there's no way to control hops the solution is to use a VPN. So, my friend just used a VPN in Norway to connect to me and it fixed the issue: 50 ms latency and no lost packages with the same setup.
Talking about speed: our "big" mess factory used 50 mb per hour.
"There is no way to control the hops". Next sentence: explains exactly how to control the hops. xD
But yeah, this is also what I suspect is happening.
Good explanation too.
This!
But instead of a ping I suggest a tracert.
Only thing I can think of is a unreliable connection, maybe fast but speed don't mean its good, Maybe ask him to downlaod the save from the server, you can do it if you are an admin, you host it with your connection on your computer and see if everything goes ok with you and your friend, that would tell ya if its on the the servers end or not, though you may not experience lag, your friend would if he connects to you.
