Need help with Quartz after 1.0 - Better base location?
My favorite 2 nodes are gone now, in the NW part of the Northern Forest area. My current factory is just west of the 3 Pure Coal Nodes that are high elevation with the lake and SAM node. Here's where I currently am:

But I am really struggling for Quartz... there's 2 Pure Nodes and 1 Normal north of me but they're underground and people are saying you need to go 3000m to the East of them just to get in the cave? Which seems really rough for getting them out (not to mention the hostiles).
There's also 2 nodes South of me I can't seem to find either. Any advice? I've checked the Interactive Map and I feel like I need to abandon my current factory and just fill up my inventory and make platforms all the way to this new spot I found in TItan Forest.

Titan Forest, especially the NE part, seems REALLY good. Only issue is Oil isn't nearby except for a few Impures to the north in Desert Canyons and some others to the west near Red Bamboo

EDIT: Here's a Snip of where I'm thinking with the Normal and Pure Nodes only

Also, some of this new Alien Technology with SAM Ore sounds like I can teleport materials or put stuff in a box that I can access anywhere on the map?

using sam you can unlock uses for the mercer sphere and somersloop. the mercer sphere will let you unlock and upgrade a stoage container that you can access from anywhere. the somersloop will let you put certain machines into overdrive buy doubling their output without any change to inputs and also drain your batteries quickly in the process.

if you can locate some SAM go setup a miner and begin unlocking the aliant technology tree in the mam. also grab as many somersloops and mercer speheres you can find. you will need alot of them.

As to packing up your entire base and moving. I would just leave that factory going and take materials with you to build new things. no reason to delete things that are being productive just because its no longer ideal. just let keep doing its thing and build new factories.

I dont have much to suggest as to where you should go because I dont start in that area myself. I start in the dune desert and slowly spread across the map consuming everything. by the time I get to the rocky desert where you seem to be all I am after is aluminum and I usually put that factory in covering most of that biome.

Yeah I found a few spheres and sloops, I have a miner on the SAM Ore node at the lake where those 3 coal nodes are. I appreciate you getting me that info about the alien tech, I haven't played in almost 2 years so I'm a bit out of the loop.
I also need to get better at traveling. I got the leg upgrade and the parachute, but before I played with the PAK Mod so I could fly super fast. Now I'm trying to get the jetpack unlocked soon.

the alien tech thing is brand new. so being gone 2 years isnt an issue as its been in in the game like 2 weeks or so.
but go check out the mam with some sam ore in hand and see the stuff you can research there, You can unlock quite a bit in that tree if you take the time to explore and gather mercer spheres and somersloops. I unlocked everything there and I am still in phase 2.

TO the north and a bit east, along a river, are some coal nodes and an iron node - next to that is a cave. Inside that is what you are looking for, plus several little buggers you might not want to find, but are in your way.

I'm not super concerned with the spider-things. I've got upgraded weapons and stun rounds. I'm more concerned with how the hell I'd actually get the ore out of the cave. It sounds like I need to run 3000m or more belts from the cave to the outside to start using it or whatever I make from it

You will be concerned when you see the spider that flings itself across the map to get to you and spits acid (or something) on you.
as for getting things out of the cave....a belt that winds through the cave will do that job. if the cave is large enough you might be able go get a truck to do the hauling.
I personally just setup depot initially so I didnt have to run back and forth while I was working to unlock things using the ore.

If you got gunz and ammo, you can spare resources for a belt. There is a pure iron node, 4 regular coal, a limestone, and water just outside the cave too, so it is a great site for a little outpost, and then you can truck goods back home. It is worth it, to at least check it out and see.

Yeah I'm hunting for more mercer spheres now, upgrading the depot's processing time and max quantity seems huge if I can get it to match the output of the miners near the quartz. Just gotta build powerlines to them and luckily those go through mountains

The pure nodes in the Rocky Desert are not 3km away but 1. The big stingers are not in the cave anymore since update 8.
There is enough room for in cave processing and dragging the lifts through the ceiling into the open world is a one time effort.
