The best products to model around are the ones you actually need now.
Then I doubled it for fun, with all recipes on, massaged it some, and thats what I build against and recipes to look for, etc within reason.
Seeing it come to fruition is the satisfying part for most of us I'm sure.. And seeing it actually function.
All I'm saying is careful not to go overboard with planning unless you've already run through the game at least once, or you're at least mindful of this..
Basically, if this is your first playthrough I'd recommend:
Plan to make 1x machine fully overclocked making each of your current project assembly parts. Once set up go do the exploration thing until complete, return home rinse and repeat. This will hopefully ensure you've got enough HDDs to unlock the alt-recipes for the next phase/tier when it's unlocked. And can then start planning and building for next phase with the best recipes.
In phase 1 you don't go too big because you don't have full yautomated power
Once there is a new phase unlocked in the space elevator you get better toys and you have to change plans.

Oh that's fun. I love stuff like this!
Yeah that's what I was looking for. I play with that and see what I get.
