I unlocked explosives, but now I see they're only for cracked rocks? Is there any way to destroy the not-cracked large boulders?
Or am I destined to build around them or elsewhere? Wouldn't mind popping a few of these bad boys.

Seem like it is fixed in 1.0. I cannot destroy rock by chainsawing nearby trees anymore.

But yes, the bomb can also destroy some small rocks that get in the way. Although I normally build the foundation over them instead of bombing away.

yep, smaller rocks and foliage can be removed using explosives
in case you need to remove stuff that sticks out of your foundations

Some of the little rocks in 1.0 seems to be adamantium. In my 0.8 factory at the Rocky Desert I could blow up most of them to make a plane ground. Now they are indestructable! Would be nice if it would be fixed..

if only the explosives would work on the wreckage that's left behind when you grab the HD.

It destroy fart pillars, fart flovers, small bouldelrs, flora and various ground "debris". Its not usable for terrain destruction. It can also kill enemies.

I think, most of us here know that. These are my problems and I got rid of it in 0.8

I didn't. That's why I asked

Explosives work on:

Rocks (cracked and small boulders on terrain)
Gas pillars
Enemies
Big mushrooms
Gas plants

Sadly it is not Red Faction like blow holes in grounds. But you can do enough with it for what is needed in this game

Basic explosives unlock far better and imo useful stuff later on. Basic nobelisk to destroy cracked boulders is for me the smallest use. Much more useful is explosive weaponry and better/bigger nobelisk bombs.

I use a blueprint to insta build a small, tall fort whenever exploring and encounter alpha creatures. Instead of bullet spraying multiple magazines of ammo, I just drop down a few bombs and that's my preferred style of combat.

I tried to get rid of the big boulder in Grassy Fields near the 3 iron nodes, and was a bit disappointed that it wouldn't work. Mostly because I could have sworn I saw someone mention in Early Access that it could be removed.

Wow Red Faction, a blast from the past

Only the small boulders, even when you stick the big one full with nobolisks it will not break. Even when it technically could be done in real life, but not in the game

It's because devs changed how aoe on chainsaw works. Before, long as rocks/boulders were within the area of chainsaw removal, they would be destroyed right along with whatever bush/tree targeted.

That is sadly no longer the case. I prefer 1.0 for sure, but some pieces of prior mechanics are much more preferable. Top 3 being
1- chainsaw aoe remove rocks
2- explorer vehicle with much larger inventory
3- driving 'feel' of all vehicles, they are imo much worse now than before (especially explorer)

This was exactly the first thing I tried to explode after unlocking it.

Then I came here to cry that I couldn't explode it.
