portable miner
Before I get hate, let me just say, I looked through 50 pages of posts about portable miners and couldn't find one with my specific problem. I did the update to get the workshop and build portable miners, no problem. I made several of them again, no problem. I know how to place them on a node, no problem. Once placed, I step back to watch the magic, and ...nothing. the miner won't activate. Am I the only one having this issue?

Did you place them from your hand slot and not just a regular drop?
Did they actually hit the node and not just outside of the node?

Seems like the only possible issue - unless you've got yourself a bug, of course.

I tried dropping it from both inventory and hand. I also tried dropping it on both the very center and around the ring in several places. I also tried going to other clusters of nodes in three areas on the map. and then just to be sure, I tried it on copper as well as iron. I'm at a loss. :(

You don't drop the portable miners on the ground from inventory... You just equip them, then go on the node and press the mouse button when you get the text about it's purity. It will work just fine if you do it properly. Actually I'm pretty sure the game doesn't even allow you to place down the miner outside of the node so it's quite literally foolproof.

If you are still convinced you are doing it properly, then drop a screenshot of a few miners you put on a node so people can see what the actual problem looks like.

To add, make sure the node is 'free' from a blockage, aka a rock sticking out from the node that you need to clear mining by hand

Not required at all. You can still tap nodes with portable miners even if they are blocked by rocks, resources, miners, foundations, anything. Provided you can get close enough to them.

That was it!! With one caviot. I had to move the zapper to the second spot in hand and the miner to the first spot. thank you all very much.

Guarantee you that the slot number wasn't the problem, but good you've figured it out. Onwards.

Indeed, they probably just didn't scroll over to the second hand slot.
