Mk1 blueprints suck.
I just got to the first tier of blueprint tech and the size limitation is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful. Trying to build just 1 balanced production iron plates barely fits. What's even the point of this thing at this size?

Mk2 increases it to a 5x5. I think the point is to be modular. Like you make a blueprint for a collection of smelters, and a blueprint for a collection of constructors. Don't do it for a specific prodcut but rather for specific machine or machines.

The consensus seem to be that CSS doesn't want us to blueprint anything. It was like pulling teeth just to have them add the 4x4 in the first place. It's a wonder they expanded it at all, and it's absolute ♥♥♥♥♥ that you have to wait practically the whole game to get one that's useful.

If you're into mods, get Blueprint Designer Plus Mod ASAP. Otherwise, just load up a new game and enable all the "cheats" to make yourself a sandbox world. Load up a 6x6 designer, make your blueprint, then go back to your original game and use it.

Blueprints are awesome. Slap down a whole load of smelters or constructors without having to repeatedly do all the splitters, mergers, cables, etc.

Yeah but Mk2 is so far out it feels like my factory's gonna be out of hand by the time I get there, thus why I feel like I could be using blueprints now. Also, it's not hard to just build a set of constructors, there's no reason a blueprint would be needed for such a thing. IMO blueprints are supposed to be for building optimal *sets* of buildings and their interconnected transporters, something that takes a lot of time to do over and over again. I'm not even sure that's an opinion, it just feels like fact.

I think you missed the point so I updated the topic. Mk1 is just way too small to be of any use.

The blueprinter feels like it was specifically designed for youtubers to make videos like "I Fit 64 Industrial Beams/Minute In One Box!" and quite frankly I have no interest in that level of space optimization.

It's not as bad as you might think. I did a teardown and rebuild to make a mall at the start of Phase 2, but as I went through phase 2 and 3 a lot more spaghetii was made. I still got through all of the milestones including the mk2 blueprint one, so now I'm in phase 4 and ready ot start rebuilding things again to set up final buildings. I haven't plopped down the blueprinter yet, but am planning to make heavy use of it to set up some easily modular blueprints as I try to arrange some much larger factory production to move into the endgame.

mk1 used to be the only thing we have from beginning to all the way to end game. We made it work even with its limitations. so the fact we now have mk2 and mk3 is just a huge bonus. I even remember a time when we didnt have even the mk1 and we had to do it the old fashion way....build everything repeating factory by hand one painstaking piece at a time.

So far I find mk1 passable for the stuff I need to do in the tier 3/4 which is when you unlock it. The biggest thing I am working with is the coal generator so my early power plant blueprints are a bit limtied but I dont build huge coal right away anyhow. Just `a quick 2 node setup with mk1 or mk2 miners. So by the time I need something bigger I will be close to getting mk2 I suspect.

The one thing I am definitely using Mk1 blueprinter for? Larger foundation pieces. So silly you need a blueprinter to do it but whatever!

Yeah, I played the game plenty back when there were no blueprints. It was a pain in the ass but I dealt with it because the game was still early access and they said they'd figure out a good solution. I'm saying the current solution, at least at Mk1, is not a good solution. They really just needed the ability to select multiple buildings and copy as a blueprint, not make this weird structure to do it.

when I have the mk1 unlocked I am largely dealing with setups for constructors or assemblers with associated power and conveyors. The mk1 is enough for that. I am looking forward to bigger and better things with the bigger and better mk2 and mk3.

I played through the game when there weren't 32mx32m blueprints, and even that didn't suck, but it would if I had to again. Complaining about size limitations now is like, why are you even playing this game if you want everything done for you? Just enable cheats like other people said they do here.

40mx40m blueprints unlocked later in the game is called PROGRESSION. The devs did everything correctly.

you rememebr it as a pain in the @ss but I remember it as how things were and we didnt even know we were missing anything back then. of course now that we are spoiled by having the mk1 we look back and wonder how we ever managed to do anything without it.

The things I want to see improved is better way to deal with snapping blueprints that dont have foundations and vertical budging would be nice. but I work with what I have. usually it includes power poles that snap to the foundation so I can get the right vertical placement that I can just delete later.

32x32 huh...was that a mod?

I agree though that complaining is pointless. We have what we have and there will be mods down the road and if you really want to get things faster now there is AGS and other game provided tools to give you a creative mode if you just want to build big things without restrictions.

32mx32m is the standard mk1 blueprint. It's in the game.
