are belts/mergers broken?
I'm trying to do a simple thing: make a coal power plant fed by a 1200 belt that has 2 miners merging on it each overclocked for 600 coal.
At the merger the 2 belts from the miner seem to be stuttering and the single belt that should have 1200 coal now has gaps in between.
It's not just visual, the coal generators are not getting their 1200 coal and the last in the line are slowly eating their buffer supply and will eventually shutdown.

What's broken here, the mergers?

First, why you want to MERGE the belts?

Hint: feed generators with a separate belt, an MK2 belt can feed around 4, mk3 around 6, with mk2 miner

stress testing the max belt speed?
*grabs lawnchair*
i dont discord so i might learn something here.

i want a single belt because it's cleaner than 2 over distance.... point is, it should work but it doesn't.
why are 2x600 inputs not merging into a 1200 output?

I have not unlocked tier 9 yet so IDK about the belt speed. But most of the time, check the input if you really input 600 items per belt. You should be using Mk.5 or higher on those belts connecting the miner too.

I also think it is weird, maybe is it a bug?

"are belts/mergers broken?"

No.

Belts run on the same speed, so no matter if you merge 2x300 speed, it goes with 300 speed after it if the belt is the same. In theory if you have 2x MK2 merge into mk3, maybe your idea may work. But still, feed it with separate belts. You can stack the belts with a conveyor stack 'to keep it clean' or build a 'tunnel' (foundations with walls) to the power plant

Ah no, i used mk6 only, all belts used have 1200 capacity and are fresh built, no upgrading belts.
The problem is the 2 belts coming from the miners to the merger should carry each 600 of their 1200 capacity but i see them stuttering.
And after the merger the 1200 capacity belt isn't carrying the full 1200 capacity.

It's not so much a specific coal power plant problem but a broader merger or belt problem

The output belt was stated to be double the speed of what was coming on the two input belts.
Doesn't matter what their use case is, it should work, and apparently it doesn't quite work as it should for OP.

For OP: I can only recommend rebuilding at least the merger and all the belts that were directly connected to the merger. Some times this will help you find some small hiccup you yourself did, or it will fix some strange bug.
Possibly you should also make sure to take a save as it is now so you can send it to Coffee Stain Studios to help them fix it if it's a bug.

Did you build the merger on one of the belts?

Yes, i tried both placing the merger direct on the mk6 belt and tried it attached to a mk6 elevator, have not yet tried just placing it seperate

edit: also placing the mergere down first and then connecting mk6 belts doesn't work, they don't merge into 1200p/m

Placing seperate works fine for me.
Never build splitters/ mergers on belts.
Sooner or later its a throughput problem.

After waiting a bit it seems the miners will stay at about 96% so only 1152p/m actually gets merged.... so annoying :steamsad:

I actually noticed this as well. I'm playing on my on personal server. Restarting the server corrected the issue, but I don't know what causes it or how long I should expect it to be "fixed".

You tried 1 merger for each belt onto the main one? Shouldn't be any different, but it's something to try.

A big storage box could be a workaround if you can't get it to do what you want, feed 2 in and 1 out.

Looks like I misunderstood the problem, thought it was belt to belt, but it seem the merger not adjusting well to the belt attached. So it acts as a a slower belt is feeding it instead of the faster one. Got to check it on other belts too, maybe it also happens on belts past MK1
