Hard drives detection fail ....
It's hell to recover hard drives .... radar towers miss half of them and the detector I'm not even talking about .... boring success...

when in doubt check the map
https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map
Also somewhere out there is a post with the locations for nearly 100% coverage using the least number of towers. It was 2 or more years ago when someone mathematically figured out the placement and posted it here somewhere.

Found this, this might better then the one I was using before.

I want to do it legitimately ....
The towers clearly don't detect them all ... even when you're literally right next to them ...

Then follow the second post (reddit one), and place towers where it suggests.

I draw the line at doing it 'legit' when I've scoured an area and either missed them or simply didn't detect them.
Not to mention the in game map is absolutely awful. It should absolutely be doing what the Interactive map does, ergo, tracking the locations of nodes you've discovered and crash sites, etc. so you can actually determine what areas you've been over thoroughly and what might have things left to discovered.

I do prefer to go through a zone to begin with, then checking out the map to understand if I missed stuff (stuff being HDDs, Somersloop and Mercers). There's only so thorough you can be.

Radar needs to be able to bounce off of them to identify them.

If they are out of "sight" line they won't show up.

I don't mind.... but it does NOT work! I tried to put a tower right next to an unrecovered hard disk and the tower displays NOTHING! So no matter how opti it is, if it doesn't detect it's useless ....

Even when glued, it doesn't work...

Not legit ...

Yeah the hard drive scanning seems to be broken at the moment. Hopefully they'll fix it soon?
Drib Sep 17, 2024 @ 7:01pm
Don't use towers, just scan with your resource scanner. Though they're meant to be kind of a pain to find, and caves make things harder.

Also... you don't have to... type... ellipses... all the time...
Mazinja Sep 17, 2024 @ 7:07pm
Hand scanner ain't working either.
Rufert Sep 17, 2024 @ 7:10pm
It's a known bug. It seems some of the stuff in the later or recently changed zones don't show up on scanners. Only the stuff that has been in the same place for several updates.
Mazinja Sep 17, 2024 @ 7:16pm
I mean, Hard drives don't seem to have changed locations much, still can stand right next to one and don't get a click from the object scanner
Rena Sep 17, 2024 @ 8:14pm
Yeah, the scanning/towers don't detect all of them, probably a bug. The towers also aren't very helpful since they don't say *where* the drives are, only how many...

There is a general bug about the crash sites. I suspect the sites themselves does not send a signal.

I stood looking at a crash site with my hand scanner saying "no signals in range"...
