Labels are in the awesome shop. You can affix them to storage containers.

Signs.... plus the dismantle trick, Dismantle mode shows what you are gong to get from the box if you delete it... which means it is showing you what is in the box

Early game you can hang a 1 tile conveyor out the end of the storage unit to show what's inside.

Signs are your best friends for labelling anything. Belts, boxes, containers etc.

Just bust out the build gun on dismantle mode and look at the chest with it. You can see whats inside from a distance.

People have been doing that for years in EA. I just use my memory until I unlock signs since you can get them so quickly once you have been playing a few playthrughs. Between my EGS and Steam versions I have almost 3000 hours but then you sound like a newbie to the game so use the little conveyor out the back trick for now. I did that fir my first 10 playthroughs. Until I began to get good at this game.

What I did when there was one product, use that conveyor belt. But with multiply products in a container just drop one item of that product in front of the container. The products will stack in a tower. Later I switched to sings with images

I used to do that. I would drop the item right on top of the conveyor hole so it was above the ground and usually easy to see. but the additional of signs to the game changed everything for me. now its one of the thing I unlock before even the space elevator.
or another thing I forgot about. I used to put a conveyor wall in front of the stage bin output..run a tiny belt to the conveyor hole and 1 or 2 of the contents would just be sitting there within each view. I havent dont that in years but the memory just came back to me.

I tend to use a very short belt on the output to act as a dispenser, and I put signs on containers to label them for contents.
