as for the turns I put one at a 45 degree angle around the curve or maybe at other angles if the its a more shallow curve.
I havent experimented with things like beams but as I type this I wonder if I can use them to make a more interesting railroad tie look.
Also a hint: if you get creative you can accomplish even more than this with the help of beams, they can be placed in a lot of different ways and at a lot of different angles. I've seen some sick looking supports with a lot of interesting turning angles.
I dont make the foundations connected to one another just plop them down at a reasonable interval that the track can stretch between them. also I put the foundations into the terrain as much as possible to minimize the floating rail look.

I think i play with some blueprints. right now I just toss out foundations where I need them and stretch track but to make the railroad tie thing i would probably need to make blueprints with a bunch of beams on the sides all parallel to one another that I can lay on the ground before laying the track.
Oh hell. I knew pillars themselves snapped, but I never tried the small support. I just tried this and it allows the hollow steel foundations to snap directly below the track. Thank you for this because I am a huge fan of using the hollow steel foundations for rail.
So I lay foundations just to lay the track, then leave the floating in air tracks after deleting all or some of the foundations. It looks ugly or beautiful depending how strongly you can rationalize 'magical technology'.
Curves are really not as a hard to do as you might think, all you need to do is see someone do it and it will all make sense. All you need is the road barrier, the catwalk intersection, and foundations. blueprint once for left curve and one for right curve and you're done.
