Fuel vs Coal
In the past, I've usually skipped fuel generators for power and gone straight from a heavily scaled up coal generation setup to nuclear.

Currently I'm playing things a bit more slowly and steadily than before.

Is fuel better than it used to be? If I simply go crude -> fuel -> power, am I doing things more efficiently (and scalably) than coal generation?

Crude > Fuel > ROCKET FUEL > power.... UNLIMITED POWER! Forget Nuke.... forget coal

Fuel was buffed by a lot, It's really good.

diluted fuel ftw! :)

No, go:
Crude -> Heavy Oil residue -> Diluted Fuel -> Power or other refining steps.

i am up to turbo fuel... MUCH more power... far less space. i just got rid of all my coal.
it is also easier to expand, you just need to hook pipes up.
the same amount of compacted coal constructors... that powered 36 coal gens.
now supply 22 fuel gens, with a massive excess of coal to use for turbo fuel recipes
(i havent unlocked nitro or jet fuel yet )

Rocket Fuel is totally OP at the Moment. One(1) Pure Oil Node generates 144GW Power.
Even more if you don´t sink the byproducts. I love this setup, but it takes a huge ammount of building (the neccesary 576 Fuel generators without overclocking)

For a very fast comparison.

- Using Diluted Fuel (or Diluted Packaged Fuel) from 300 m3 of Crude Oil can make 30,000 electrical power.
- Using Nitro Rocket Fuel (or basic Rocket Fuel + Compacted Coal) from 300 m3 of Crude Oil can make about 72,000 electrical power.

Both recipes will use at least 2 alternate recipes, which are Heavy Oil Residue and Diluted Fuel (or Diluted Packaged Fuel). So grab those 2 the moment you saw it on your Hard Drive.

As a side note, both Diluted Fuel and Diluted Packaged Fuel have the same ratio. But Diluted Packaged Fuel becomes available earlier and requires a bit of extra setup to get Fuel. But will use less power than Diluted Fuel which uses Blender.

yup .. i spent about 15 hours setting up my turbo fuel alone. I guess i gotta unlock me some rocket fuel

I always thought the supply chain for nuclear was complex but it's gotten worse. Fuel meanwhile has gotten better. You can get a LOT of power from fuel much more easily

If you're looking purely at the numbers, coal definitely loses out here. With the right alts, rocket fuel is pretty ridiculous - you can also sloop all types of fuel production, which you can't really do with coal.

I'm being honest: I am more planning to do ionized fuel for a end-game power setup. But until then I will use diluted fuel.

Yep, them Fuel-Powered Generators got a massive buff in 1.0. They now produce 250 MW instead of 150.

But they also consume 20/min of fuel instead of 15/min before 1.0. Just to add.

But now they don't require computers to build

You can do crazy stuff with fuel + alt recipes + loops now - and all super early.
So imho fuel over coal.

But tbh there is plenty of resources, and coal generators can be blueprint-placed really fast.
