Random Massive FPS drop
Randomly while playing out of nowhere the game drops fps to 5fps
I play perfectly at 60 fps all the time, but when that happens the only solution i found was to restart the game, do someone have an idea of what might be causing that and a solution?

Only time I've experienced such oddities (not 5 FPS extreme though) was when I was working with massive arrays worth of belts full of items and I triggered dismantle mode. The game would sort of slow down and getting out of dismantle mode would bring it mostly back, but not all the way. It would persist until I reloaded the save and it would be fine again. I cap at 75 and it would only drop me to 60-65, but the game actually felt laggy, it wasn't just an FPS hit.

Most games, I would go straight for the graphical advanced settings.

Shadows, reflections, draw distance. Lower them.

I have the same issue. Mostly it seems to happen around reflective surfaces with many lights around, at least regarding the strange drops you describe. But I have noticed specific things also drop fps heavy more consistently, like the power storage effect when charging causes strange fps drops.

I believe you have two very good answers, if not three
Follow them all. Reduce GPU load, and the reflections slow down might be a great clue

Good Luck

I've been running into the same thing. I'll be playing merrily at 45~fps (Yes my gpu sucks), and then it'll randomly tank to 5~fps for awhile for no discernable reason. Like, It just happens, Doesn't matter if I'm doing anything, or constructing anything, or processing anything. Could be just standing there, then 5fps for a few minutes, then normal again.

This didn't happen in pre-1.0 (Last I played was update 8), and it's the same computer now as then.

For me it sometimes happens at the main menu after quitting my save. Can't be hardware. It only started after the 1.0 release.

I have had this issue pop up as well. Its not tied to GPU load (im not seeing anything abnormal on the system resources, memory or GPU), it just seems like a glitch that was introduced in the last patch. I had never experienced it in 1.0 before yesterday. I've had it happen when around my factory and ive had it happen in the middle of nowhere (with nothing reflective about). Its quite annoying. As said, only fix seems to be restarting the whole game.

The only massive drops I've seen was when destroying rocks, down to under 1 fps since v1.0.

I'd guess it's a driver thing. Different systems may have different problems with polygons or lights or shadows or ...

Hey, I noticed that when I played longer time like 4+ hours to 8/+ hours, it would drop my FPS from constant 144 to like 125-135, but restarting the game resolved my issues. The only other issue I found was that for some reason I sometimes drop from 144 FPS to 125 FPS on the mountain near the Dune Desert start where uranium ore is (building there something huge rn), but it is hapenning only on specific coordinates, when I move little bit from it, the FPS goes up again. But idk why really .. could be because of my huge factories (on Tier 9), many MK5 belts etc.. Playing on RTX 4080 + i7 13700k and 1440p 144hz monitor. Prob the MK5 belts rendering mats on them everywhere, I'm using "FAR" in in-game settings because I dont wanna see empty belts

There was a recent Bitz video (don't ask me which video and timestamp, he's been publishing new videos quite often), where he demonstrated a hologram clipping bug. If, while placing an item, the hologram clips/intersects a collection of items placed by blueprint, it tanks the FPS. Turn 180 degrees and the FPS comes back (assuming you're not hitting another blueprint.) He stated it is a known bug by the devs.

No blueprints on my side nor the clipping :) (ever)

I've seen other places remove the shader cache (just be careful not to nuke your saves) may help, or forcing DirectX. Info is here, hope it helps your issue!

Same, sort of. Have this problem too. When it happens GPU and CPU load instantly drops from 35%/40% down to 3%/5%. Game just starts chugging when I see a glistening spitter. Otherwise FPS is total fine and usually around 90-100FPS, though I cap it to 60.

Its a recommendation here as well...as long as you save your .sav files and blueprints then you really dont lose anything except settings which you can easily restore...this ensures no cache or config files are used from Update 8 and 1.0 can rebuild those from scratch...starting with a clean foundation is a good idea to avoid these issues.

After looking into this issue, I'm half confident it might be related to some VRAM leak or the game not unloading some resources properly. I do mention this in my guide, and it's next update might come with some more tweaks to adress this issue
