Chainsaw and packaged fuel
Is there an upgrade to the chainsaw that lets one use packaged fuel for it? I really dont want to carry around another fuel type just for the chainsaw. I normally carry packaged fuel for the jetpack. Plus least for the real world packaged fuel is more sensable.

I don't believe so. Pretty sure it only ever uses solid biofuel.

Not really a huge problem if you unlock dimensional depots and set up a biofuel factory you can dump all those leaves and whatnot into. You'll want to set one up anyway because liquid biofuel is great for the jetpack. Less lift compared to regular or turbofuel, but it's got a MUCH longer flight time. Just siphon off some of the solid biofuel with a splitter into a depot before it heads into the refinery and you're good to go.

Oh i have biofuel automated. I just want to free up a slot. Also for some reason my jetpack uses biofuel even when i have packaged fuel in my inv. at the same time.

Once you have Noblisks unlocked, they make the chainsaw redundant anyways. They can destroy trees and shrubbery just as well

There is a gear icon on the jetpack while it is equipped in the inventory that lets you choose preferred fuel type. Also, fuel type affects the jetpack more significantly than vehicles and such, it's not just the energy quantity that affects it. There's a chart on the wiki if you want the specifics, but if you want to figure some of it out yourself I'd recommend comparing packaged fuel versus packaged biofuel (not solid biofuel).

As for the original point, I think alternate fuel types on the saw would be nice, but honestly it wouldn't make a huge difference in how I actually end up getting stuff done. I need to get around to actually automating nobelisks, but even without that they get a lot more done at once than the chainsaw ever can for the same amount of time, especially clusters.

Out of curiosity, how'd you do this? I am approaching tier T7-T8 and thought similarly that biofuel would be nice for jetpack. Is there a recipe for making biomass -- Nuggets from renewal sources not requiring manual farming?

Chainsaw becomes obsolete by that point, the only thing it remains useful for is cutting down singular trees for aesthetics purposes. For everything else you just toss a nobelisk. So you can get rid of both chainsaw and fuel for it. You can still take it out of dimensional storage on occasion.

Everything after manually picking things up can be automated.

It's semi-automatable.

Set up empty drop containers (or just a single container if you set up smart splitters to filter different materials) and route them to constructors using the wood/leaves/mycillia biomass recipe, and then route those to constructors that are making solid biofuel out of biomass. They only real infinite source of biomass is enemies, but their drops can be set up in the same way.

Ok, wasn't sure if there was some other means of converting biomass that I was unaware of to where you'd want to use more biofuel than regular fuel. Just seems like another thing you can use later if desired for limited purposes.

It's possible to fully automate with mods, or "was" possible to be technically correct. There were ways to farm biomass with stuff like Ficsit Farming mod. Made for an interesting challenge run if you wanted to finish all space elevator phases using nothing but biomass and liquid biofuel.

Yeah, to each their own. I don't use mods personally and prefer to play in the original mode intended. Appreciate the tip though.

Upload the Chainsaw to the cloud, and there you go.

They should have update chainsaw long ago, its ridiculous how an explosion based engine operating with solid fuel

I agree. Especially since those things in real life run on liquid fuel. I automated biofuel but have nothing to use it for. Drones also can't use it. I could waste it in generators but I don't need that so I might as well sink it then. I've yet to see a good use for it, except maybe the jetpack. It's hardly more efficient than burning the solid, not worth it.

It lasts very long in the jetpack. Pretty much my to-go fuel for exploring. You can fly out pretty far before having to recharge, which is the main point of using it.
