- play on your style and don't bother what others do
- to collect a lot of biomass at beginning ... Just keep E pressed instead of pressing it each time
But, my best advice to a newbie is to stay clear of places like this, reddit, youtube, twitch etc. Much of the joy of the first playthrough is discovery; learning the game's mechanics and exploring the world. Forums and videos will rob you of that.
Take your time, go at your own pace. The game encourages you to unlock this and that rapidly, but you won't get a feel for the new shiny things until you've spent some time with them. Far more immersive to ignore the 'push' and do things one step at a time.
However, if you're goal oriented and just want to 'finish' the game, go for the goals. It's just that they are more peripheral to the true experience, they're really just there to provide a 'tutorial' until everything's unlocked and you have a genuine sandbox world to do with as you see fit.
Don't worry about clutter, unless you're OCD. The map is massive and you can build up and up and up.
It's easier to have water bottled and then delivered (At least for me).
Build the basics of something, even if it's .5 a minute. After your next project, the container might be full.
Get the doggo's just for fun and don't forget to bounce on the whale-giraffe-penguin thing.
I think this game is WAY more fun when you play and learn it your own way and at your own pace.
By the time you start making a part you'll probably decide you don't like something about the factory that does it!
There are a lot of approaches to layout and organization and approach, so just do what you feel like. Some people make beautiful factory buildings connected by road and rail, some just have a sprawl of conveyor belts everywhere haphazardly. Whatever you find fun.
2. Your first factory, before you have foundations, will be an utter mess that you'll eventually tear down.
3. Your second, third, fourth... will also be utter messes.
4. Just because you don't need a part anymore, don't stop production unless you need to save power. Just fill a container for when you need it later.
5. Double-check which direction the train station is facing.
6. Explore the options and settings.
7. Pay attention to all the text and icons on the HUD. It's easy to miss things.
8. Manually driven trains can go in reverse. Autopilot trains can't unless they have engines facing both directions.
9. Don't keep things in the storage of vehicles you plan to drive around yourself. If they get stuck you have to dismantle them and it becomes a huge pain. If they fall out of the world you're not getting the stuff back without a save editor.
10. The guns kinda suck. Even the best ammo can be like spitting on a tank against some of the bigger baddies.
11. Known bugs to watch out for: screen is all black and white (change FSR setting); nuclear waste in water extractor (move it elsewhere); pipe floor holes not connecting properly (rebuild the pipes); suddenly stops responding to input (you accidentally hit ` and opened the console, not actually a bug)
12. You do not need to worry about dropping just one berry for the doggos. They'll only take one.
13. Leave lots of space around things.
14. Some buildings can be upgraded by just selecting the upgraded version and clicking on them. For others, you need to hold Ctrl and click.
15. Do not save and quit in a place where you just cleared out a bunch of monsters. They might just come right back.
Take a week off to discover the game
I made a tips and tricks guide here on Steam. Also a ton of youtube creators make awesome guide videos you may enjoy.
