As you mentioned, Iron Pipe sounds great, but in terms of the actual ranking, it's a D (and this does indeed end up becoming more apparent when you're getting into Tier 8-9 and starting to use up all available resource nodes).
In your case, you should just grab whatever makes sense to you.

Iron Pipe is listed as B in this ranking, which is based purely on efficient resource usage instead without regards to how much more complex the factory layout becomes.
