But if I have to answer, I would say, a normal Turbo Fuel recipe (although it still counts as an alternative recipe). Because of the whole Dilute Fuel (or Dilute Packaged Fuel) that'll give you more Turbo Fuel.
Yeah, Rocket Fuel is almost twice as efficient as Turbo Fuel. And the Nitro Rocket Fuel alternative recipe is the same as turbo blend fuel, it just uses nitrogen gas instead of oil residue.
Haven't done the math yet so I actually don't know if it's worth it in the end though, it probably is.
It has almost double the energy compared to Turbo Fuel, just by adding Nitrogen (Gas or Acid) into it. The normal recipe also uses 6 Turbo Fuel to make 10 Rocket Fuel and gets 1 Compact Coal back.
Nitro Rocket Fuel skips the Turbo Fuel and Nitric Acid part and blends the Fuel with Nitrogen Gas (also Sulfur and Coal) to make Rocket Fuel + Compact Coal. This is easier to set up and you can get almost the same amount of normal Rocket Fuel recipes.
FYI, using Nitro Rocket Fuel and Diluted Fuel. You can get 1200 m3 of Rocket Fuel per minute with just 300 m3 of Crude Oil (also 600 Nitrogen Gas, 800 Sulfer, and 400 Coal).
Heavy Oil residue + diluted fuel is a good start.
In update 8 sulfur was pretty rare but in 1.0 oil has become more rare so I think both regular turbo and turbo blend are good.
Once you unlock tier 9 Rocket fuel is even better.
The nitro alternate is more power efficient, more oil friendly but costs a little extra resource, nitpicking quantities. When using this recipe you might want to make extra fuel so you can make extra turbo/ rocket fuel with the byproduct.
Im finishing the core of a 4200 rocket fuel factory with the regular recipe using 1800 oil, 1042,5 sulfur, 1680 nitrogen and 210 iron ore.
IDK what are you talking about. But I think you mean you didn't want to overclock anything in the Fuel Factories. That is okay IMO. You can just overclock the Oil Extractor and get the amount that you want.
I only overclock all my Factories and Fuel generators because I don't want to build 288 Fuel Generators. Additionally, there is the synthetic Power Shard. This means you can make the Power Shard without using the Slug. So I don't really feel wasted using them in my Fuel Generators.
TBH, Ionized Fuel takes too much to make. It might be good to make some. But to run Fuel Generators, I think Rocket Fuel still tops it off.
Someone might have done the math on Ionized Fuel but the complexity of involving Turbo Fuel already turns me off (using the Compacted Coal instead of leaving it as a byproduct). So I'll just use Rocket Fuel on my game.
Nitro Rocket Fuel: - easiest to set up, highest sulfur drain
uses 0.5 nitrogen per 1 rocket fuel
0.25 crude oil
0.667 sulfur - but generates 0.167 compacted coal (so 0.5 if you use coal for turbo->rocket)
Turbofuel -> Rocket Fuel:
uses 0.4 nitrogen per 1 rocket fuel
0.27 crude oil
0.48 sulfur - but generates 0.1 compacted coal (so 0.38 if you use coal for turbo->rocket)
Turbo Blend Fuel -> Rocket Fuel: - highest crude oil drain (can't dilute all residue using this...)
uses 0.4 nitrogen per 1 rocket fuel
0.45 crude oil
0.3 sulfur - but generates 0.1 compacted coal (so 0.2 if you use coal for turbo->rocket)
(Turbo Heavy Fuel is bad if you have diluted fuel.)
So, depends what you are worried about running out of - sulfur or crude oil.
Nitro Rocket Fuel is the most convenient to build though.
1.25 heavy oil residue refinery -> 1 diluted fuel blender -> 1 nitro rocket fuel blender
(then deal with compacted coal+polymer resin byproducts)
