I thought I saw solar panels in a video.

No, and they never will.

No solar.

Won't happen. Ever.

This was done by a good mod, Refined Power.
https://ficsit.app/mod/RefinedPower
However, in this release version, mods no longer work. You need to wait for the mod manager update.

They added some new window designs that look sort of like solar panels, that's probably what you saw. They have said solar panels are never going to happen. The game is about managing supply flows for everything and solar/wind don't need anything fed into them.

I think there is an image of a solar panel from a mod in one of the videos on the store page lol, I think it was the video farthest to the right.

No, solar panels completely defeat the purpose of the game since there's zero input or waste ouput. Theres also a functionally limitless amount of surface area on the map to place them so it'd be kinda impossible to balance since it wouldn't matter how low the output might be.

Save humanity with solar? Don't be silly.

Solar panels were a mod.

Unfortunately, yes. This is a game about the ruthless exploitation of natural resources and the destruction of the planet's ecosystem.
That's why I personally prefer Planet Crafter) Or a game with mods.

They added stuff to 1.0 that does exactly this, except solar wouldnt produce energy at night- which is a pretty severe restriction.

You mean the power augmenter, which requires a limited resource? Or the ficsonium fuel rods which require a whole processing chain to build? Neither of which could be spammed everywhere like solar panels would be. Not sure they're really comparable.

There 'restriction' isnt that different daylight is only have of the day. that means 50% of the time your panels produce nothing, and they dont / wouldnt produce that much in the first place.

As for spamming power resources that cost almost nothing, that can already be done with battery arrays.

I dont see why you are so anti-solar panels, the mods which added them didnt break the game, and they dont have to be early phase tech either, also, their could be various efficiency versions unlocked for different phases.

Either way, I wouldnt go so far as to say they will never be implemented, but i will agree that in terms of space required for them to be useful, assuming the efficiency is 30% ish, would be massive- the resources required VS the energy gained doesnt seem worth it, plus as i keep reiterating, the dont function at night. So having your factory rely on solar for anything, as a necessity, means that at night time, the factory production stops.

It's not op even the slightest, if anything, its a way to reduce battery draw during power outages at power facilities.

Green power won’t be coming to satisfactory as started by the cms. So no wind or solar.

You just want free, easy power. Go on AGS and turn on infinite power, or just wait for these completely unbalanced mods to be updated so you can cheat it.

Power storage exists. Factorio has precise blueprint builds that provide the perfect ratio of solar panels to accumulators to get you through the night cycle without issue.

It's never getting implemented. It cannot be balanced. There would be no reason to ever use any other power source.
Please stop pretending like you've thought through the pros and cons of this (cos you blatantly haven't), and stop with the lame accusations that people are somehow "anti-green energy" or some similar ridiculous statement.
