Is the game any better to play on Steam Deck now?
I tried this game over a year ago on the Deck and just found the control scheme incredibly awkward and unintuitive, so I figured I’d wait for controller support.

It seems they never added it, but is the game at least an improved experience with the steam deck yet? Not sure if I should dive in for a new save or not.

Switching to Proton Experimental causes a Wine related crash error, and trying to change the resolution desyncs the touch screen/mouse canvas making it impossible to properly interact with the game. At one point the game window was portrait instead of landscape, very bizarre. So yeah, leave graphics settings at default, which is Lowest detail fidelity options and native res and borderless window and all that jazz.
*Switching to Vulkan API for graphics rather than DX11 or DX12 is probably a good idea though at least.

I cap framerate at 30fps on Deck settings and in-game also, both for stability and for battery life. In my factory's currently small state, I'm even able to throttle TDP Limit to 5-ish Watts give or take a watt (sometimes 7), and still get stable [enough] 28-30 FPS.

I also highly recommend applying the second community Steam Input layout (David 15 Fingers' one for Steam Controller). The first (Nevir's "streamlined") seemed to be lacking some controls, I forget which now. The second one is also more intuitive I felt.

Enjoy!

The game is not verified for steamdeck, so reading others comments about it, controller support is not there.
But you can connect a keyb + mouse.
HOW good it will work though is another question.

I see people saying they do play on the deck, but the framerate might be a bit on the lower end, especially the longer you get into the game.

It's playable but you'll have to set up your own controls

No problem! I’m on Deck LCD and Steam OS beta branch, by the way. Still going strong in Satisfactory, a few hours battery life from one full charge!

Wanted to poke about this, as I haven't been able to get the community layout controls to work properly since I just DL'd this on my deck today. I tried both Streamlined and the David 15 fingers, both are different levels of broken. The David's one mostly seems to work, but none of the left trackpad OR dpad controls work, and dismantle mode is done there.

I just tried satisfactory on steam deck using the streamlined layout and even though the description says everything is bound I did not even find out how to open inventory, there is nothing bound to TAB key

Just a note on the Streamlined layout in case someone stumbles into this thread from Google like I did - a lot of the controls are hidden away in an "emote wheel" on touchpad 2. You have to hold the small button with a drawing of two windows next to the d-pad, and then touch the right trackpad to activate stuff like the inventory.

I actually found this to be a fairly pleasant interface, though a couple of the mappings were out of date.
