How to get to Quartz Locations near Rocky desert start?
started a new game with 1.0 today, and started for the first time in the rocky desert location because i know the grass fields location like the back of my hand.

And when i looked for Quartz node's the scanner showed me 3 locations north, about 300-400m away, but when i got there it still says 80m away.

Now i take it they are underground somewhere and that is fine, but i can't for the life of me find a way down, is it really that far away from the locations of the nodes? or is there something else going on because of the 1.0 update.

Anyone who knows the answer? Would really appreciate knowing if there is something wrong or if i just need to look better.

Yeah, these are in a cave. I found them before but I don't really remember where the entrance was exactly. I think one of the entrances was along the west coast? Try going there. The cave has multiple entrances I'm pretty sure and IIRC they can be accessed from the coast in a few places, maybe even from the east too. Might have to blow up some rocks or deal with gas, bring some gear.

There are two easily accesible entrances along the northern and northeastern coast.

There's also a SAM node in that cave

Man... I got stuck on this one like for an hour before giving up and hitting Google. It was early in the game and I wasn't yet used to the idea that some nodes might be underground, just wasn't expecting that. I must have passed by that cave entrance several times but ignored it as I don't enjoy caves.

I'd forgot the quartz was underground in the rocky zone. Went right by it the first time in the north coast, a little crevice opening up with a slug.

I don't think I'd ever explored the cave there. Originally when I played the zone years ago now I found quartz on the eastern edge of the zone I think. Reminds me how the full desert zone isn't that bad besides a lack of easy bio fuel.

People have been getting confused by those nodes for years..

Would be very helpful if the Scanner showed altitude

I had a lot of fun exploring to find those - although there may have been a corpse run or two. There's some nasty stuff there and I was surprised at how toxic toxin is. :/

Now I just need to find caternium and a good sulphur mine...

I liked the area a lot pre map rework; I had found this lovely spot with a few pure iron nodes. pure copper, triple pure coal, limestone... quartz and such were a bit more challenging but it was all within conveyor range.

Which, in hindsight, wasn't that great because it meant never using trains and such. Looking forward to setting that up now. :)

The entrances to the cave are no where near the underground quartz nodes. One is on the north coast near two coal nodes. The other I found was also next to 2 coal nodes on the north east. I circled the hill under which the quartz nodes are and found no entrances. The entrances are 600-800 meters from the quartz.

Two entrances to quartz (both near coal deposits):
Free entrance from the east
From the west it is blocked by rocks that need to be blown up.
