Pausing the game
For anyone wondering how to pause the game, open the console with the tilde key ~ and simply type pause.

Not sure why the devs don't have a keybind for this option in singleplayer mode.

Probably because pausing the game isn't necessary. One less feature = less dev time and less fodder for future bugs and issues. Less is more in software dev. Pretty simple.

To me, it's necessary. I've just gotten started and am burning through shrubbery like there was no tomorrow.
At the same time, I frequently need to Alt+Tab out of the game to take care of other stuff.

So... no pause key, really?

Have all power generators connected to on pole an disconnect that pole when you leave the game.

Or just let the fuse burn when one of the generators is out of fuel. It's not like there is a scarcity on things to burn....

Why would anyone want to pause the game and stop production?

early game biomass
early game oil balancing
life calls and Pause is faster than "save and quit-to-menu" or "save and reload-eventually if accidentally consumed limited resource due to missed detail along the line while AFK"

Because if I'm being attacked and my kids or wife need me (aka, real life intrudes), I'd like to pause so I don't die due to afk.

If you pause FICSIT deduct money from your salary.

The functionality is there. How hard do you think it is to tie a console command to a keybind? Would take them 15 seconds.

Biomass burners are unique in power generation in that they only use their resources to generate power when power is needed. So they'll only be using up all the wood and leaves you've farmed when they're producing plates, rods, concrete etc As soon as those machines are full, the burners will stop using resources.

You're essentially trading leaves and wood for parts in the early game. Pausing would prevent that progression.

Good to know. I was working on an elevated rail and a low flying sky ray thing would knock me off and nearly kill me whenever I went afk. It was really annoying.

Not really, it would just mean that it progresses at your pace. Maybe you're in the middle of setting up a new production line and RL interrupts for a significant amount of time (30 minutes) and all those resources got converted into materials you didn't really need, now you have to gather all new leaves and wood and bootstrap your power back online (especially if you've been feeding the generators with biomass/solid biofuel) and basically start over and have wasted a significant amount of time that could have been avoided just by pausing the game.

Honestly I was worried I'd run out, but then you get the chainsaw you will have more than you'll ever need, like seriously I'm moving into coal and I have 1000s of biofuel waiting to be used for fuel, so I'm now questioning if I turn it into vouchers or just get rid of the leaves constructor and keep the wood ones as they are so easy to keep topped up anyway.
