Most useful start location?
What is the most convenient start location in 1.0?

It used to be Northern Forest with it being somewhat centrally located and having one particular area with tons of pure nodes. I know 1.0 really gutted this area though so it isn't near as good.

What location would you say is the best overall?

Northern Forest hasn't really changed in what matters. The only thing I remember being changed is they removed/moved the quartz nodes. It's still a good start if you are fine with the terrain.

Northern forest and Desert are still the best starting locations. Forest has a nice, central location, and the desert on the other hand has a lot of open area where it's very convenient to set up even the biggest of bases. Both areas have abundant resources too and you will almost never have to go far to get a good source of anything.

I've done a Rocky Desert and Norther Forest start...maybe it is time for the Desert. Don't like how Desert is so far to the east though...

Desert is very much like Northern Forest in terms of resource abundance, the only difference is that it's easy to build stuff there, and you might have to do some leg work to find biomass early on.

Also personally I really like it from aesthetics points of view. The contrast between the day and night lighting (hot vs cold vibes) and the vast open spaces make for a very good looking night sky. Also it feels vast and open, forest was always a bit claustrophobic.
