How does online/crossplay works?
I read this section, and it isn't very clear, to say the least.

I am going to add my emphasis.

ONLINE INTEGRATION

There are many new settings that you can apply to a session. Now you can play singleplayer with all the multiplayer capabilities disabled. You can now play exclusively using Steam to connect, or exclusively use Epic Online Services, as well as choose to have Crossplay between both platforms.

Account linking has also changed allowing more flexibility, as it can now be managed entirely from Epic’s website by logging into a linked account.

What if I don't have an Epic Account? How do I 'manage' multiplayer configuration without an Epic Account?

How do I let the game know to use the various online connectivity options, such as Steam-only, to connect? In-game, I hope?

I had no plans to have an Epic Account, and I doubt that will change anytime soon.

I remember at one point, it would ask for login to Epic Account or connecting to Epic server before letting anyone start an offline game.

Looks like you do now. Accounts are not linked now, you're not connected to EGS by default (and that's a good thing) and if you chose to link them, it opens a web browser and asks you to log in to EGS.

For some stupid reason I can't understand, it seems that steam can only invite steam players, but Epic players can invite steam or epic. It used to be either-or.

I just finished tier 0, and I still can only invite to watch on Steam, with my Steam friend. I was fairly certain that when we played 0.8 that I could invite my friend to join by the end of tier 0. I don't have an EPIC account, but the other friend dose have an EPIC account, and has joined other games in progress in 1.0 .

I checked the wiki and there didn't appear to be anything there about the way that servers changed. I have no mods installed but I do have an old save file.

Nevermind, not letting me crossplay in either direction.

Yea I have always been able to join my friend who is on steam, but now it will not let me join his session. I am on Epic

There used to be crossplay between Steam and Epic but it looks like the terms got changed on Epic's side or something.
Very lame that the ability to play this game with friends is now limited to people who get an Epic account against their will.
Bad. Needs an alternative option.
