Any sense in downloading the current version now?
1.0 will be out later today, I don't have the game downloaded and I'm wondering if there's any sense in starting now or if the 1.0 update will require a full re-download of everything.
Or if there's some shared files making the 1.0 version a smaller download when the time comes.

The way I see if is if you download the game now and it gets done before release, you will lose nothing if you have to download an entirely new build of the game. But if there's only an update of a few gigs (or less), then you have a gained a lot of time.

The game isn't even that big to begin with (I think the current release download is about 8 Gb) but if you don't have that fast internet, already having the game on the disk will save you time if it's just an update and not a complete redownload.

This can be a matter of precise timing.
Start downloading in a way it's finished with the current version exactly when 1.0 drops

In theory the update will be smaller than a full download.

They updated the Engine, so full download is needed.

So they went from a V8 to a V12?

Its an engine update of UE 5.2 to 5.3. Thats the engine, not all of the textures. Who knows how they are going to handle patching existing installs.

Depends on exact nature of patch. The second patch for Wukong was like 5GB, I downloaded in few minutes and then took an hour to apply - downloading full version from scratch would be faster.

Good point, I hadn't considered that.
