Got a source for that? Because I remember one of their update discussion videos where the head of the map team said they'd much prefer a map generator over any additional maps. She was very specific on that point.

At best we get Random nodes, and DLC map in the furutre
Too many work needed for something like this.
If you pay attention about game with Procedural random generated map, most of the time shape, biome and stuff like that can be, if well made, nice done and the transition between biomes is fine, but most of the time it's not like this, even from 2D games or simplified visuals , and the transition between a forest and a desert is just like an hidden line from players but that you can easily "see" in your mind, and so the result isn't that great.
Game who want to have Random map make this choice very early, and for a game like Satisfactory, just imagine how glitchy and bug it would be...
It was already the case for a single map, and took a long time for a clean final result, so random map? naaaaah! never xD
Being a 3D game with the somehow realistic look they choose doesn't well fit with it.
(it's somehow the same for Icarus if you know this game)
I'm sure some mod author will try it, but it will be very experimental I supose.
For some other games it's possible, for many reason, often because of the lightning management and stuff like that because game with RNG map are underground, or with simplified visual.
But I know... there nothing wrong to dream a little ^^
Maybe a new map or some sort of extension would be a big news.
Or maybe it we will have to wait Satisfactory 2
And when would this map be available? Right from the start? Makes it even more difficult, because it has to be just as balanced as the current hand made map.
When was that, sure it was about Satisfactory? Because for the last several years they have been very clear about their map direction. They like the handcrafted map they've made, even are proud of it, are against procedural generation and no new maps are on the roadmap.
See the links Fenix provided. Thanks Fenix.
There's gotta be some DLC for this game if 1.0 is successful and expanding the area of pioneer's operations seems like a natural direction :) Even if it's just few islands near the current location.
They'd be crazy not cash in on the success and they clearly enjoy (at least part of the team does) making this game so some expansion just seems natural. Unless, they're burnt out, I mean it's been 8 years. Snutt said there are people on the team who want to do something new, but there are still people who want to work on Satisfactory.
And, of course, there are the suits who will have the last say on the matter :(
Some days ago I spent several hours simply walking around the island and I found many places I have never seen before. But I stopped exploring after couple of saves, lost interest in exploration, just wanted to build stuff. So, I went on a sightseeing trip to see the whole island.
The world is huge and so intricate and full of detail. I can't imaging a procedurally generated map being able to match the details, the feel and the quality of this world. I made few maps for games before so I have a vague idea and appreciation for how much work, effort and heart went into designing and creating this world.
I do find some areas uninteresting, off-putting, too gloomy, too cramped or even unpleasant, like the swamps, but this what variety is about and I know some people like to build there too. So the map has immense potential even as it is.
