If people wanna strip away 90% of the gameplay by using a sandbox mode, good for them.
The same reason why people play minecraft in creative mode
It will be here eventually, till then you have mods that can help with it.
Not if you think of this as digital Legos. ;)
I think there is a fine line when it comes to sandboxes. Ones that can keep you engaged over a long time and ones that just kill the game for you like doing it all in one line.
What is the purpose of this game? Like most, it's to have fun. Not everyone has the same fun the same way.
I mean make hearts and houses all you want, but the basis of this game is a stream of factories making stuff.
Its not like Minecraft, you cant basic build a computer with it.
