Help needed - Why do my electricity levels keep fluctuating so much? (SOLVED)
I just finished my oil setup and all was going well. I filled up the pipes/fuel generators before turning the whole thing on. At first, everything seemed fine and the electricity graph remained straight.

However, some time later after connecting the setup to the rest of my electrical grid, I started noticing a lot of fluctuations.

How do I fix this? I also have a coal setup (1200 MW), but it has always worked fine so it much be the oil setup.

Are your generators flipping on and off? Double check your math on fuel production vs consumption.

Once you've confirmed the math is good, then look for unfilled pipes. It's much safer to shut the generators off and let then fill all the way up, then power them back on. Make sure your fuel pipes get saturated before you start the generators.

Read the data in the Refineries to see if your oil is flowing at an even rate. If any machine is producing the product faster than receiving the ingredient it will temporarily shut down and take more time to start back up rather than staying on consistently with a controlled in-flow rate of the ingredient. Either overclock the Oil Pumps to push out more oil to increase the refineries production or decrease the refineries production by dragging the slider to the left more to slow it down to even out the in-flow of oil so it doesn't temporarily shut down and then have to restart; all of which will indeed create fluctuations in power consumption.

Assuming you have access to overclocking in-game. It's a great way to mitigate these kinds of things.

Thanks for advice.

I checked the math and my drunk dumbass built too many fuel gens (2 extra) plugged in so they kept running out of fuel.

Good to know your ok - give it a few hours before you call it good - oil/fuel is fickle and things creep in slowly - may not be as obvious as coal.

Had to learn a few things in troubleshooting last few days.

Fluids are a fickle mistress.
If your average power is mostly good, don't worry about it. Build a stack of batteries and let them handle the rest.

I built 96 Coal Gens before I started my Fuel gen stacks - glad I did - cause I made a few boo-boo's lol.
