That why you place all the regularly used ones on hotbars.:D

For me, I've got hotbars that group my commonly used production machines, foundations, pipes, power equipment, railway stuff, walls/roofs, then just a quick [alt]+mouse wheel to scroll between them. But just arrange them however suits you.

why do you talk about hotbars when i complain about scrolling. its faster to press q and scroll and click the item i want.

Because depending how you arrange your hotbars, you'll likely find needing to 'scroll' far less often, and is quicker to flick between hotbars than open build menu / and cycle through all the items in the build menu (some of which probably not use all that often), so was suggested as a way of minimising the "open menu / scrolling" pain.

Also, you can use the MMB to copy an item when you point at it, so if you want to expand at an area, you may have no need for q, but there is a request to make the groups collapse/expand with a button (like with the crafting table)
