Using signs as decorative lighting or guide lighting (for fun!)
Just thought of this earlier but using solid colors and adjusting the Emission setting with multiple signs can provide a neat little look for night time or dark enclosed hallways where using a ceiling light or wall mount light would be too big. For Small Square Signs setting a solid color to just the bottom 3rd color palette will create a border look.

They're a great way to light interiors, and provide some exterior pop
The "border look" as you called it is something I've never tried myself, thanks for the idea! Looks good.

Sadly the signs don't really 'produce' light, they only glow when you look at them. Can't really use them as actual lighting, but you can use them to look pretty. Also depends a lot on your light settings.

These are two signs right next to each other facing different direction. As soon as you move behind a sign it stops glowing.

Indeed! I'm having a lot of fun with a variety of creations.

For me signs are only there to give a certain atmosphere, I use lamps when I need real light

I tweak console/engine.ini settings to force a bit of actual light emission from the signs.. Unfortunately the latest patch has caused some issues with them. I probably won't bother retweaking to try and brings things back for a while; I want to play, not spend another half a day trying to get things looking right just to have it all fall over again on the next patch.

Good approach. Yeah I try to go with vanilla settings as much I can. If I can't achieve the 'look' I'm after then it just doesn't happen. : ) The only tweak I make daily is turning off Fog but mainly for screenshots otherwise it just looks too washed out. Wish there was just an option to toggle it in Settings directly!

Oh that's awesome! Yeah I'm at the phase now where I have to harvest oil and start building tracks and trains. I love that idea!
