For no better reason than to not have to spend time building it when you unlock it. You can set it up later. You never need to produce a single steel pipe, and you can do more advanced recipes without needing to bring coal into the mix and split your iron between iron and steel.
And by getting all your pipe/encased purely through iron nodes, when you do setup steel, you can redirect all of it into steel beams for the versatile framework.
They do exactly what the best alt recipes do imo, give you options.
I really like Iron Pipe through. Especially early Steel Production. Because you can pour all your steel ingot into the Steel Beam. But in the mid-late game might not really be that useful. Because you can use Train and you can use Mold Pipe/Mold Beam which increases Steel Production efficiency by a lot.
And it's absolutely worthless to the almost every single player, because it's a purely mathematical exercise.
Context is extremely important when it comes to the actual value of alt. recipes for players. A recipe that's good in one situation/location/process may not be good in another.
This is worse than the old wiki issue.
I'm SO PISSED.
New players will read "ok there're 10 alt recipes that are worth it, I'll hold scum on hard drives until I get them all and screw the rest"
600 oil = 288GW
150 oil = 36GW, 600 oil = 144GW
With 34 somersloops you can turn 600 oil into 4800 rocket fuel (1152 generators/288GW)

Heavy Oil Residue + Diluted Fuel
- key for fuel power and rubber/plastic
Recycled Rubber and Plastic
- fun loop to start with 1 stack of plastic or rubber and watch it multiply
Sloppy Alumina + Pure Aluminum Ingots
- greatly simplifies production chain
Not counting Compacted Coal and Turbofuel since those are available in MAM. (IMO all of the above should be.)
I can get by with base recipes for everything else just for unlocking tiers.
Somersloops is something you ought to mention in your post then, otherwise that's just misleading.
Steel screws.
(Screws are just annoying)
Sure, I didn't mention the nitrogen , the coal, the sulfur or the water either...
Neither did I. Stop being whiny. Somersloops are a rather important thing to mention when you bring up input/output.
