How to handle Dimensional Depot?
I'd like my storage array to dump into the dimensional depot but unless I build a dimensional depot for every item type it's just going to get clogged up.

is there any type of way to have something feed into the dimensional depot ONLY IF the dimensional depot is not currently full on said item so that if it is full on said item the item will get sent elsewhere (like a sink)

As far as I'm aware, no, you're stuck feeding things in manually with minor exception. I would certainly reserve a few for things like ammo and fuel, possibly concrete, but besides that it's not really feasible to have one for everything.

What I do, having bought a few upgrades, is I take enough stacks of materials to fill up my slots before building and then I dump all that into a container that directly feeds a DD that's disconnected from everything else. Also, Inventory use access is way OP. Get it quick.

That's what I've been doing too

I should probably go mercer hunting again. I think I could get by if I just had maybe 10 key things auto dimensional depot'd

You'll have to dedicate a dimensional depot for each item you have in production. It may seem like a chore earlier in game but in the end it's super worth it.
What I do is I have a storage container for every item, each leading to their own dimensional depot. Then like every storage system, I have a smart splitter on evey production line overflowing to a sushi belt to a sink.
I now barely carry any building item on me, so I basically build from the dimensional depot even though I have it set to use my inventory first. It just works fantastically

You need one uploader per item or upload directly from your inventory, then you don't need an uploader. Currently there is no way around this. Perhaps the DD will receive some QoL updates later.

Dimensional Depot uploader is a storage container basically, like any other storage container, except that it can only accept one type of item. So, like with any storage container, you can put a smart or programmable splitter right before the uploader and set one output to overflow and connect it to a sink or another container. If the Dimensional Depot is full, the splitter will send the overflow to the sink or to the other container.

I just put a D Depot on top the container of the most used things.
I'll Blueprint a Central Storage like this at some point

Exactly what I do: uploaders go on top of normal containers and there is some sort of sorter involved that fills up those containers and sends the items somewhere else if the container and DD uploaders are full. This way my DD refills constantly.

I just unlocked the depot this save. I think I am going to try to only put things in the depot that I need for building, at least at first. So no screws and such. If I need something like that in the field I will just make it at the crafting bench.

I think there are enough mercer spheres to fully upgrade and still have over 100 depots. Although I think I am not going to upgrade until I have enough depots for the construction materials I want.

I also have seen on the forums that the depots are additive, so if I have a large concrete project I can put several depots on the concrete line to get the throughput I want.

298 spheres, 97 to complete research... so 201 depot...

Yep I have several uploading Concrete

Depot costs 4.

Still 50.

Yeah the large containers are perfect for this. Just snap a DD on top connected with a lift and it can siphon items while still having a port free to use for other things :)

The depots themselves only take 1 sphere each to build.

I'm not sure I understand your guys configurations where you're dumping storages into splitters and sharing the output among multiple dimensional depots...

Won't that just cause item X to be blocked if an item Y is in front of it on some conveyor when item Y is full in the D.D.?

I just have one dimensional depot dumped into by each item type

Or are these configurations you're showing just for one item, just to speed up the deposit rate?

1 Item per depot. 1 item being fed into multiple depots depending on usage rate like concrete.

Smart spliiters, A specified item goes into the storage, overflow goes forward to the next smart splitter and will end in a sink to prevent stoppages
