Particle Accelerator using 6,000 mw???
Was there an update on the particle accelerator or something? I just loaded my game to see my power consumption going through the roof and checked the particle accelerators. It says they use 2000 - 6000 mw now (nuclear pasta) when it was 500 - 1500 before. Even the description in the build menu says it only uses 250-1500 for the varying recipes.

I think 4 sloops puts it at 6k max if I remember correctly.

Still the same power requirement. But what you have sounds like you have put sloops in as they increase the power demand by 4x when running at 100% for double the output.

I was making Pasta, with three shards it goes to 7k, with sloops it goes to 21k

not sure anyones complaining about a problem. But the idea of a single machine requiring 21k MW of power is pretty wild.

I'm sorry...did I say there was a problem?

I get the idea of sloops 'requiring more power', but in most cases it triples the amount. With those machines with no fixed power uses the max cons. sometimes drop also. At least that is the biggest issue I have seen, that once a machine starts to make the product it somehow gets a less higher max cons. So you can build the map full with generators because those machines have a high demand, but in the end they do not

You think 21k could be a problem? *points in general direction of that 26.86GW quantum encoder*

According to the wiki, sloops are a fixed 4x power multiplier, which means a slooped 250% machine requires like, 13.5x the power of a normal machine.

Thanks!!!

Yes, I have 4 shards in there. I removed them and it went back down to the normal 1500mw. I didn't realize the power shards also increase the power usage. I just thought it was a free doubling of output. Silly me.

haha easy mistake if you do not use much of them... i noticed it when i put into manufacturer and the power spiked so much i run out of power and was scratching my head how can i run out of power.. it was early game so 700MW was something that was noticed as i was close to running out of power anyway.

Still it is too much, you only get 1 product extra against a cost of much more energy. Better is to place more machines then with shards. At least that is what I think

It's a little more than that: you don't have to reconfig your factory layout to increase production rate. Pretty handy when you go for aesthetic and/or don't want to untangle your perfectly weaved belts.

It's not just one extra product, it's doubling production without using more ressources. It's super useful for late game production of things like turbomotors or fused modular frames, and above. Also SUPER useful for more limited items like alien protein and power shards
