Hard Disks
I find them pretty frustrating that you either have to savescum for 20 minutes or wait hours in-game to get the recipe you want. Why not just make it a skilltree that you choose how you want.

Or just collect more.

I'd definitely like a way of making it less random.

I quite like the idea in general but after your first playthrough when the novelty has worn off, and 20 hard drives later you still don't have the recipe you want, it gets a little tedious.

research some equipment like weapons, jetpack or harddrive-scanner to reduce exploration complexity and you will notice to have more harddisk then needed. most times even the required item is found in the next harddisk spot near by.

They already made it way less random than it used to be.

It used to be, you research a hard drive, you got 3 choices, and you had to pick one before trying the next drive.

Now:

To boost your odds of finding the recipe you want, collect many hard drives, research them all, but do not choose an option. Let them accumulate in the hard drive library.

Because each pending drive locks two recipes, it reduces the pool of available recipes for the rest of the drives. Then when you've researched all the available drives, use rerolls on them.
unlock the dimensional storage with the personal uploading and the alien power augmentors. grab 10 sloops and head out on an adventure of discovery. Loot the sites, upload the parts you find, then you can grab em out of storage as you need em to open crash sites. if they need power, the alien power augmentor provides 500MW, build that and connect it to the crashed crate. The hungriest one is 450MW or so iirc. so will be fine.

Didnt take super long to find enough hard drives to unlock everything. Did it as soon as i had jetpack with biofuel.

Yes, it is a tedious mechanic, especially aftre you have odne several saves. However, this is def better now (but would still prefer a skill tree then a grinding crash sites):

Yea. I learn this later an start collecting them all over first then research. I use alt recipe later (some are nice) but it is good to know there are more HDD than recipes.
