I did some quick testing on a hill:
It looks like foundation snaps at its half height and the grid height-step is 1m. With that, the 4m and 2m works fine. Just combine the 2m foundation with another 2m or a 1m foundation and it's leveld with the 4m foundation again. The beauty of even numbers. Neat.
But the 1m foundation has it's problem. It also snaps at half height and has now this 1/2m gap to the "next" grid, which can't be leveled with the other two. We would need a 1/2m foundation.
Potential fix:
Change the snapping from half height of the foundation to bottom or top of the foundation with a 1m grid height OR do this just for the 1m foundation. Why only the 1m? The 4m and 2m are buried so well with the half height alignment. They look solid connected to the ground. Pure top or bottom alignment could lead to extrem burying or almost floating. I mean, how do we target the grid under the ground to bury them just enough? A different target system would work, sure, put changingthe alignment is probably the easier way.
I saw, felt like a dumbass having first asked before trying lol
I was actually surprised when I found you were the one who copied the release notes from discord and posted them here in another thread.
I haven't tried the feature yet, but I did read it in the patch notes.
Ah, yes, that makes perfect sense as the even foundations still have a whole number when halved. When I was testing around some foliage I noted the 1m almost always let foliage pass through, so I believe they assume most people will use the 2m & 4m to avoid that.
At least on simple builds, if people made the mistake of starting with the 1m, Zooping can bring up a new pillar from the ground pretty fast and a new ground floor can be made, ignoring some empty space. Or maybe people who use the save editor mod (if still around) will learn the numbers for shifting an section 1/2m vertically and fix things that way.
All that said, the 1m ramp clips pretty cleanly as well, and I hear concrete looks even better clipped (purdy curves y'all). And I'm sure there's some terrain where a 1/2m step in the foundations would look better for some aesthetic reason. So aside from the 'newb beware' bit at the start, they fix themselves easily enough, and give us more options.
Huh, wonder what else is 1/2m tall and snap-able...
